3-5 burst,strafe,3-5 bullet burst strafe etc.
I do this roughly and my m4 is a headshot cannon. If you can strafe correctly so that your crosshairs are smallest at the right time this method will work perfectly.
Get used to the spray pattern ,what i like to do is just pull the spray pattern back towards their chest and it will end up as a headshot. Avoid spraying if possible. -

Depends on the situation. If you have somewhere to cover, then cover and peek in a second. The strafe is important as you want to get a small crosshair when bursting as the gun isnt good at spraying.
At close range,i'd recommend aiming very high-especially when walking round corners and someones rushing. The recoils pretty low and i like just to pull the crosshair down gently towards to chest. Should get another headshot.
Since all m4's are relatively low powered, its essential to be a good headshotter. -
Crouch to shoot. It'll increase your accuracy a notable amount when using the M4a1 Silver.
Burst only, 2-3 shots, 4 maximum. It doesn't take too long to settle back down, so it's better to let it do that, rather than panicking and spraying like hell.
The recoil isn't bad at all, if you also play with the AK-47. Try using that first, it'll make the M4 seem tame. Pull down on the mouse slightly to help steady any aggressive recoil.
Long range, it's a beast, I even out-snipe snipers, while using M4 Silver
shoot for the tummy, and you should get a decent kill.
It's actually pretty good close range too, but you MUST aim for the head, shoulders, (knees and toes). Even if you're playing GM, aim for the head.
Despite the fact it's a good gun at close or long range, see the M4 as a typical American assault rifle. It's often out-gunned by sub-machinies, so in all circumstances it's always better to kill the enemy before they get within close-med range of you. Unless you're running low on ammo, due to not having died for a while (it happens often), let one get moderately close to you, then pick em off and steal their gun when the coast is clear. Another solution to this is to purchase an extra mag clip, available from the in-game mall, providing you're at or above the required rank. -

ahhh,i forgot that bit on crouching.
This is a good guide aswell,i'd recommend using pieces of mine and cookie's guide and seeing how it goes. I'm an ak sprayer mainly so i'm used to using plenty of bullets and controlling spray/recoil so maybe this guide is less spray based. -
Me honestly I think that both m4-c and m4-silver are exactly the same. I think people say that the m4-s has a lower recoil because of its big looking suppressor, unlike the m4-c which has a smaller one.
So overall maybe its because of the way the gun looks...
btw for close range its no secret...spray. -

I NEVER spray at close range. You shoot them in the head, 1-2 shots, you win. You spray at them, 10 shots due to panic, you might win. Do this a few times, you're wasting ridiculous amounts of ammo. -
