It's to reduce damage when you fall so you don't have to waste time practicing the ninja fall. Also if you mess up there is less damage anyways.

In some situations, like DownTown, if there is an enemy planting A site, bhopping to reduce damage isn't as good as it requires you to jump, therefore reducing your accuracy.
