the isp are complete idiots. it took them 3 months to figure out why our internet kept crashing. it would go down atleast 5 times a day for an hour or more. longest it was down was 2 days. i don think they could comprehend the issue here.

first of all you have to take all the facts into consideration ,
when your router checks the connection to see if its there,
does it automatically drop and if so does it reconnect to try
and find a connection or does it just stop all together .
Secondly is your router via usb connection correctly secured
and attached at both ends ? if not it may be the cause of your
connection issue an unsecured loose end can cause confusion
in the router making it think the connection is not their thus leading
to the connection drop to then check if the connection is even their.
Their are many things you have to take into consideration before you
can ask the question " why does my router keep checking if theirs an
    internet connection "
If anything your router could be bad , ive had the same problem before
and i dont know about where you live but routers are not that costly
here about $30 dollars should do it no need to buy the most expensive
    router

Fact : Sometimes the cheapest routers are the ones that work best
    and last longer .

Opinion : Buying an expensive router is a high risk due to the
fact they probably rig them to break so you can come back to
spend more money out of your pocket for another expensive
    router.

My advice , buy another router preferably a cheap one
to see if your still having the same problems if so then
it wouldn't be your router , leaving you to question your
internet provider then will most likely lead to switching to
    another internet provider.

    Hope i helped.

yeahh im probably gonna end up getting a new router. and i think its the software that came with the router that makes it check the connection, which also makes the connection drop. so... im guessing theres a way to stop it from checking but iunno.

good to hear sorry i couldnt help you any more than that
but their arent really that many ways to take care of that
type of problem without having to use all of your money
on some guys to come over and look at things for five hours
just to tell you your routers bad and not having money
for a new router afterwords :/
