Framerate drops

I have a cruddy computer, but that's not the entire issue. I have Comcast internet and Comcast's customers were all recently switched from McAffee to Norton(yeah). When I had McAffee I had no problems except that I had to turn virus and spyware scanning off to play. Now that I have Norton I can keep it turned on, but every 5-10 minutes my CrossFire framerate drops from 40fps to 15-20fps for about 30 seconds, then returns to my normal 40fps.

Anyone know why this is happening?

Edit: I forgot to mention that my ping stays steady at 79 throughout my entire gameplay experience.

40 FPS is very low to begin with. I sometimes get as high as 120 FPS. Make sure you have all programs closed and have the Norton disabled before you start CrossFire.
