Just a thought on Pug vents....
FIRST AND FOREMOST: I do not object to people running PUG vents. That is not the issue here.
THE ISSUE: How can this community become better if there are SO many of the SAME kind of weekly events going on? Of course it's great, people are taking an active interest in trying to bring more fun/competitiveness, whatever you want to call it, to the community. I understand that. But the more and more of these pop up, the more and more the community is going to divide. Some groups will prefer Krzy's vent, some groups will prefer the other PUG vent, some groups will prefer to stick with Swiftay's weekday PUG events.
Isn't the point of these things to build a BETTER community? Not a divided community? Maybe I'm missing the point :P. Some people may think, the more the better. I guess it would be too much to ask of this community to run one big PUG for everyone
Everyone has to have their own little "clicks".
I may be alone in my thinking here. But I think it would be better, especially for PUG type events, for them to be unified. One big event where EVERYONE enjoys to gather and just have some fun. Maybe throw a little rivalry in there and such. Of course, there has to be rules and a good staff. I guess that's the start of it all right?
My discussion point: Less of the same kind of PUG events, more unity. Come together and work to make a big one for everyone to play on. A gaming community in a sense. Make this community stronger, not more divided. We don't need ANYMORE division than we already have. Discuss.

No. The issue isn't the 1v1 tournament. That's great. My issue is the fact that we have 3 PUG type events going on at the same time, ran by different people. There's no need for three. There's a need for one GOOD one, run correctly. These PUG admins need to take a huge interest in what the community wants and form their events around that. There's too much "I'm the boss" type people in these events and the pride and egos need to go down a bit and make it a more enjoyable experience for the community.
The 1v1 Idea is GREAT! It's a completely different idea than the weekly PUG events. It's a Tournament. -
Thus my point. It's a double, even triple standard. There's no stability in this community. It's simply dividing people more.
I agree with you, if we all just worked together, pugs wouldn't take 45 minutes to start and we wouldn't have to wait for 10 people on a slow day. We would need alot of slots though... 150? And the drafts would be HUGEEEE. -
If you search the internet hard enough, there are plenty of gaming communities willing to share their public vents. I have one that has a 400-slot ventrilo, willing to upgrade whenever they need the space. Vent space isn't the problem.
The problem is dedication and the reason for running the events. You have to be willing to run it NOT for the purpose of your own popularity in the community, but for the benefit of the community itself. You have to be willing to take the criticism and the arguments in order to get to the ultimate goal of bringing this community together. These events have been rushed. Proper staff should be screened, contacted and communicated through private channels well before an event is made. There needs to be more organization, not chaos and "Oh let's run a PUG vent for the **** of it." -

I understand what you're saying, but most pug vents are experimenting.
Why use Krzys "Pug" when people complain about it so much? So other people decided to try to make a new one. Once we got one GOOD, solid pug going everyone will come and it will be less "divided". When I mean good, I mean a good organized pug where it doesn't take hours ( Like wogl/krzy ) to make a draft.Running 3-4-5 PUGs with different admins and different rules for the same target group is about as counter-productive as it gets.
Get organized, get properly staffed.
Maybe, but once people realize which one is the better/organized one, people will start sticking with it. -

I'm the last to advocate user input when it comes to promotions.. so I won't.
1. Get staff you trust.
2. Get a rule set most are comfortable with, realizing its a PUG, not a leauge.
3. Realize that its YOUR system, but kept alive by the users (ie, user input on DEMOTING a staff member in private is acceptable)
Organizing PUGs should really not be an issue. If you can't get 10 people playing, you failed with one of the above. -

1- I'm pretty sure Erick picked a few good people, and demoting them won't be a problem.
2- We're not restricting all weapons, and stuff, but we got a pretty good rule limit on everything.
3-Realized it
Thanks -
Oh, I'm not pointing towards a specific system.IL1keDrenKip wrote: »1- I'm pretty sure Erick picked a few good people, and demoting them won't be a problem.

Just my hopes of how one (singular!) NA PUG system could and would work.
Something is obviously lacking in the ones currently in place since people are making distinctions.
People move around because they have one, however minor, issue. Options make it possible, and moving is easier then resolving it.
Most of the time I assume its someone not liking a staff member.
Easily resolved, as we see in forums and such, by avoiding the staff member.
Whatever really. Theres no real effort, and I shouldn't be preaching this.

You're right, there was something that was lacking; Reason we made this new pug vent.
All tho, we're opening options like you say, we're just trying to get a better system down.
Preach it as much as you need! -
@ Dren:
Points are valid. A better system is needed.
1) Good staff - Not immature people who will freak out at everything and ban people for stupid reason. Lay out the rules, say what will get you kicked or banned. Stick to that. Don't have admins get "ban happy".
2) ANTI-CHEAT: At the very least have some sort of SS program. Zscreen is an open-source program that you can have set-up to automatically upload pictures to filehosting sites at a set interval (even in as little as every 2-3 seconds). There MUST be something here. Growler is OK at best, causes a lot of headaches though.
3) Atmosphere: Are you going for all serious, competitive? Or half and half - competitive and fun? Or all the way screwing around fun? You as admins must set the pace at the beginning.
4) RULES: Elaborated from above. Get the rule set down, officially. Where there won't be changed later on. Get a rule set you are happy with and STICK TO IT. If you say public chat cursing will get you banned, then ban anyone who does it. Be firm, but fair.
I'm sure this is all self-explanatory to you. But I felt I should share my ideas as well

nah if you find the right pug it's quite fun. The new pug vent that came out is probably going to be the main one in a little while. I don't exactly like krzy's pug vent since all they do is play around in that pug and the admins aren't great. The new pug vent is pretty good so far, but yeah flaws. If all three combined with good admins and a bigger vent I think the pugs would be much more fun. Too bad the pug in ll's vent is going on anymore
