My Analysis

Not this passed Thursday, but the Thursday before, I saw my step-brother playing Crossfire, so I asked him about it and he told me where I could get it. I downloaded it, created my account, and before I knew it, I was joining my first TD on Egypt.

The first thing I noticed about Crossfire is how eerily similar it is to Counter-Strike: Source. Source never impressed me. I played CS 1.6 for 9 and a half years, participating in over 15 seasons of CAL-o through CAL-p. With my previous FPS experience, I was able to pick up CF in no time at all. Once I realized that you could just run around and shoot people in the face without having to come to a complete stop, it was all over. Ten minutes into my first game, people were calling me a hacker. I'm not gloating about it. I thought it was hilarious to begin with, but looking back at it, it's pathetic. It's pathetic that people can be so bad that some guy can have his hands on a game for 10 minutes, and half the room thinks he cheats.

The next day, my step-brother says that his clan scrims a lot and that they want me to join. So I do, thinking that maybe scrims were different than pubs (like in CS 1.6). I was wrong. The first team we play, we steamroll. Two of their guys get all upset saying we cheat and we're reported and that we're going to get banned or something, I couldn't really understand since they were speaking SpEnglish. All I told them was 'me encantan tetas grandes,' and left.

The one main thing that bothers me about this game has nothing to do with the game itself; it's the people that play it. Sorry if I offend some people, but most of you are stupid. Maybe the forum community is better than the average pub, I don't know, and if it is, what I said is not directed at you. I can't tell you how many times I've had a good shot on someone, and then they FLIP OUT over it and say what a cheater I am and all that good stuff. I don't get upset when someone gets a jumping headshot with an MP5 from the other side of the map. Get over it.

All in all, it isn't a complete piece of junk. Crossfire just makes the old saying, "You get what you pay for," ring loud and clear.

Extremely common, the community in general has been this way for a very long time, along with other communities from free games. "You get what you pay for" is correct in its own way. The game is FREE which means anyone can play this game, including all the kids who cant pay for anything better.

We have dealt with this in a minor way by settings up PUGs and smaller sets of the community that is "competitive". Though it is not perfect, it is much better then getting into a random scrim or pub against people who will ruin your match.

If you continue playing the game, I'd recommend you check out the weekly PUG drafts done by either WOGL or CFGL, get Xfire and join the specific groups made for scrims or PUGs, and just start meeting the better side of the community.

(Your also not the first person who has played CS and then started playing CF.)
  • The average community member is 13-15, the average maturity age is 8. Honestly, if your so familiar with 1.6, I would just continue to play it. This game is alot of lag and server issues with some reg issues. The community is awful though, bad reg is one thing but a game full of immature kids is another. As far as pugs go, you will be asked to growler and hackusations also until you are more known. I wouldnt recommend pugs personally, its ran by a group of kids. Altohuggh, Europe Pugs are very good if you are EU.

Overall, this is coming from 14 months of CF, the game has its negatives. My advice, stay unknown and just play in a fun scrim clan. Kids take this game way too serious and competative play will just kill the enjoyment in this game.
  • What do you expect from a game in which the average age is about 13 and the average mental age is 4.

Most of the forum community is better than that of ingame.

The very bad competative play Crossfire has, that is completely dominated by 2-3 teams.

Actually, hes not a racist. Brasil is a country not a race.
  • The very bad competative play Crossfire has, that is completely dominated by 2-3 teams.

Actually dominated by one team: Lifeline. Mainly because a LOAD of players have retired which leads to less clans, less pro's,and people don't practise enough either. There has been so many players that returned to CS1.6 though which is a pity since the community isnt going to get any better if everyone leaves.
I'd advise you to try pub in Alpha-7 and look for rooms with weird symbols(chinese, viet, korean etc) which are all really really good players (usually). Also, try to get some xfires of good/pro or respectable clans to scrim against as most of the community is brazilian(the worst: lag/hack/cry/cant speak english),turks(the EU br's),romanians(armour + skill lite + spop = newb) or germans(majority just suck).
Z8 really need to get make ping ''locked'' pub and scrim servers for NA/UK clans to scrim properly. The people from the countries really ruin this game.
