logitech g35 vs razer megalodon

Comments

  • i have a universal set called trittons, they are pretty amazing. dont know much about these though
  • Razer is better than logitech. Nuff said.
  • Never used the Megalodon myself, but according to other peoples reviews (and my personal experience with the G35), the G35 beats it on pretty much every level.

Excellent mic, excellent audio, solid GUI and a few nifty extras that are handy but at the same time, doesn't interfere with regular play. A few macro keys, a convenient volume scroll rather then the regular thin one on the cable.

The weight surprised me, its solid and sturdy, but not in a "will mess your neck up" kind of way.

Just remember to get the drivers going. Ran mine without and was getting ready to throw it out because of the low bass, until I found the lever in the gui.
Efficient at blocking outside noises too, unless you got the mic turned way up and in the down position (automute when folded up), since the mic is damn good.

Also theres a poorly explained button on the side. Its the surround effect, and it just echos in a very disturbing way when playing. Keep it off for gaming, I assume its for movies.
  • lol yea. that's the problem i have been running into all week. g35 reviews say its better. megalodon reviews say its better, you says g35s better, killgod says megaladon. i found one video on youtube g35 vs megalodon but it was in Swedish.
  • im sure razer beat logitech by far.

btw whats the price of megalodon like 200$? -.-
  • Razer is a gimmick. Look's don't tell performance.

    and to dot, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peiuATtxlVg
  • I am sure a SteelSeries headset could rock them ones any day for gaming..
  • Hello and welcome to my other review on here on YouTube.

And today, we will review the Logitech G35 and the Razer Megalodon

Both headsets are in 7.1, but they run at 2.0 too.

    <unboxing>

Manual and drivers. CD autodownloads the latest drivers.
Then we get to the actual headset.
Here are a few head cushions.
This is the actual headset. Looking good.
Weighs.. alright. Not too much, but maybe a little.
Logitech put the whole control in the actual speaker. <fiddling with the volume and mute button>

With the Logitech the microphone mutes when put up, and unmute when pulled down. With the microphone down you can still mute using the Mute button.

The size bars are numbered, but this won't matter as you usually pull them down once you got them on. (you can't, autolocks when put on)

This button is the surround, turn on for surround, off for stereo.

You see how deep it is, the ear fits perfectly inside.
The cushions are highly noise canceling.

On the microphone, it lights red when the microphone is muted. And as you can see, its very flexible.

    MEGALODON

You can see directly that they wasted some money on the boxing. Not so environmentally friendly, but its nice.

When you open it, you see that the manual is in the lid.
Drivers do not come with, you do not need drivers for the Megalodon. Just plug it in and you're ready to go. So the only things that come with are manuals and stickers.

So when we pick up the actual headset, you can see the casing is really good. Its hard and protects well.

Now we've opened the package, and here is the Razer.
    Lets pull it out.
There, as you see the Razer is much lighter then the Logitech. And they went with the more fabric like cushions, rather then the leather-ish.

The microphone turns all the way around, so you can use it on either side.

On the actual control you see that theres thee at the bottom, one in the middle and the scroll in the middle.
    And one on top.

And on the razer you mute directly on the remote, turning the mic up doesn't mute it.
Its much lighter, after many hours of gaming, I think these are better.
Then I'm going to mention something about the cord. They both use the fabric-like cord casing, and they're both USB.

    <displaying the lights>

Push the button here, 7.1, push it again, 2.0
You can configure each speaker individually using the middle button and then adjusting the volume.

    Audio quality.

    They're both very good quality-wise in 2.0.
They're equal. And how high volume you can use, the Razer is better. You can turn it way up to hurt your ears.
With the Logitech, you can turn it to max without feeling that its too loud.

But in 7.1, the Logitech is much crisper, you can hear any footstep and where its coming from.
The Razer is surround, you can hear them regardless of position, you can't pinpoint the audio. They haven't succeeded with the surround.

The bad part about the Logitech, is that you can't really turn the volume way up.

With the Razer, you can turn it up in Windows and the control on the cord, which kind of amplifies it. And you don't get 'worse' audio even if you turn it way up.

So what I would recommend when choosing between these too..
The Logitech is around 110, the Razer is around 140, thats what I paid.

I would choose the Logitech (even if he says Razer, mixes them up several times).

    You decide.

Skipped a few irrelevant parts, not involving the quality of the products.

I got bored near the end but basically he says that the Razer has weaker sound and its annoying, theres probably some software you can download for it but it should come by default, and the sound in the Logitech 7.1 is still way better.

Anyway. Did it for practice, probably a few typos and grammar issues but I translated it live, without pausing.

And I win, the G35 owns Megalodon. Suck it, Razer.

@Cee: SteelSeries are so-so with their mics in my opinion. Sound is good though.
  • thanks a lot dot i was unsure which one to get for a while. i guess i will get the g35. can't wait, hopefully this weekend im getting them :D
  • I had my g35 for about 3 weeks now, amazing. You got one point wrong dot, the surround sound is amazing for gaming, it takes a few games to get used to it though, you can pinpoint hearing, I recommend leaving it on while playing.
  • yes... i set up the g35... went into 3 ghost modes.... kicked right away in all three after getting like 4-5 HS on still ghosts... they thought i was hacking... surround sound pinpoints those ghosts amazingly... i just wish i had the g35 when the ghost mode tourny was around lol

and i have to thank you again dot for helping me w/ the swedish video and your opinion.. i would probably have the megalodon right now if it wasn't for you
