Advertising in game?

Two games that do this right off the top of my head that I can name are Counter Strike 1.6 and Quake Live.

Quake Live is a TOTALLY free (No cash shop) FPS game that uses in game advertisments to generate income and keep the game up.

We've all seen the big billboards running Cross Fire advertisments in Cross Fire. I'm wondering if people would be adverse to the idea of z8 "renting" these billboards out to companies for advertising purposes?

I personally wouldn't have a problem with it. People buy a LOT of ZP, enough to keep the game running as it is right now. But imagine what z8 could do with the added income of in game ads? Maybe hire some more people at the office to get things done faster? Improve the servers? Add more servers? (I know I wouldn't mind a server in Texas...)

So lets keep this thread on topic and in order.

How do you feel about ads being placed on in game billboards and/or loading screens?

Well they are there for advertisement purposes why not make money off it as well.

I have no real control over content.

And if I read Bruces post correctly, which I'm pretty sure I am - the point is to add extra revenue to perhaps make things happen a bit faster - not remove the ZP system.

I approve of this. Much.

I doubt the ZP program would be removed.
But having slashed prices, better servers, etc. for advertisements in game would be absolutely priceless.

I don't think they should reduce ZP prices as a result of this though, as advertising to cover that loss would then be rendered pointless.

Though, if the prices of ZP went down, people MAY feel more inclined to purchase some. Kind of a 'Catch 22'.

Yep, but a lesser number of units have to be sold if the prices are high, whereas higher amount of units would have to be sold if the price is low. Again, a 'catch 22'.
