IRC Channel | #cfscrim
[NEW THREAD] http://forum.z8games.com/showthread.php?t=55970 <- Please use that one for any thoughts, help, etc.
GameSurge > #cfscrim
This channel was made a while back for the purpose of getting enough of the community together to talk and get matches set up. The first time was a failed attempt because of the fact that many people would rather use xFire or other software rather then learn how to use mIRC. It did not get enough support, which I am hoping to change.
I will be posting this on the ESL, WOGL, and Z8 forums. I'm hoping to get the word spread out and get people to start using an actual mIRC client, not just the web client. Nothing amazing is going to happen right away, but I'm hoping that within a month we can see some regular activity. The main point of doing it through all leagues is because it will be much easier for people to come to one channel instead of being spread out between 3-4 channels. Lets just label #cfscrim as the main channel for getting matches.
These are some of the main CF related channels you might want to look into. They are all located on the GameSurge server. These are:
#crossfire
#cfscrim
#wogl
#esl
mIRC Client - http://www.mirc.com/
GameSurge - http://www.gamesurge.net/
GameSurge is optional, it allows you make an account for the GameSurge network/server so that you can get a voice or op account in channels. With this site you can also have access to the web client, just in case you cant use a regular client. Such as:
http://www.gamesurge.net/chat/cfscrim
Just replace "cfscrim" with the name of the channel. GameSurge also has great guides about the use of mIRC commands. Such as:
http://www.gamesurge.net/commands/
Along with the countless websites that have guides, there are also many Youtube videos and people willing to help you learn a few tricks. I guess this is enough information for now, I might decide to redo this post so the information is placed a little better.

With mIRC you can have an account, join multiple channels and servers on client start, and have many options and the ease of use of a client. Works much better then having to use the web client constantly.mIRC is a popular Internet Relay Chat client used by millions of people, and thousands of organizations, to communicate, share, play and work with each other on IRC networks around the world. Serving the Internet community for over a decade, mIRC has evolved into a powerful, reliable and fun piece of technology.

it's not going to work, the competitive community is trash.. we've already tried this numerous times
2-3 times, third time the guy who was running completely dropped it within a few days. I highly doubt its going to be like Source, but the way I'm trying to work it right now will give it a chance. I will be making a few videos and getting the info out across the few forums and PUG spots. I'm thinking that within a month we can change a little bit of something, but not within a week or two.
+ bLitzd is doing his share of the idling, you should join too?

I respect your opinion as everyone is entitled to their own. However, with an attitude like that everyone might as well pack their bags and not try at all. As evidence of people trying different events to jump start this community, there are some who believe there CAN be a decent competitive community. Bashing it only will make it harder. -

The community has already proven itself to be pretty bad, but things such as WOGL have already slightly changed the way the game is played competitively. So if I'm given a month and some good support I'm sure we can get mIRC active. -

I agree. My point was that things need to be given a chance. Yes the community has not done well up until now. WOGL will most undoubtedly prove that this game can be competitive and with enough support for the mIRC, it will be another stepping block in pushing this community for more organized competition. There needs to be more people that are willing to step out of the comfort zone and push the boundaries a little. Sure at first it will get ridiculed, but with the right people and the right attitude these things can be done over time. -

this community uses xfire to get scrims not irc, there isn't that much of a difference between the 2
