make and model of your mic.
You mean sound card, and the motherboard shouldn't matter.
To the OP
Just tell us the sound card and Operating system please, if you don't know them use Everest to help http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html It will identify a lot of components used on your PC. -
windows Xp service pack 3 where is the motherboard info located? and the kind of microphone i have isn't really a headset. its just headphones plugged into the mic port. but it works on another computer so i dont think its the headphones.
ohh also my soundcard is SoundMAX intergrated digital audio -

looks like your driver, Download it, install it, restart and run back and tell us if it works.
Also check if your mic and headphones are connected to the right port.[/QUOTE
they are correctly connected as for that link. i downloaded the drivers and well as for installation it said "drivers not found, reboot your system and try again" -
it works tho so why use money

Thats prolly the reason why he's getting staticy. Headphones aren't met to be mic's. Therefor you get this output.
$23 isn't that much. And its not like your paying for it yearly or monthly. 1 $23 will last you a good amount of years. Take good care of them and they'll last more than mine have so far.
(traveling and stuff really messes with them.) -

but why would the headphones work on my other computer and not this one. doesn't make much sense. no static on 1 computer. a lot on another. has to be the sound card.
i just dont know where to find another one that will work. -

Its possible that its something to do with your ports on your MoBo. Or your sound card doesn't like..."support" using headphones for mic's. -

ohh it could be the ports? would cleaning them out with something help at all? if so what would you suggest? -

NO, its not that your ports are dirty or anything. Itsj ust that its possible your ports and your connector on your headphones aren't cooperating.
Like when I use my AUX cable for my ipod in my car, when its playing music if I turn the AUX cable (the end connected to the stereo) it will give that "Static" effect till I stop turning it, or hit a "sweet" spot. Its possible that you may jus need to turn your connector and see if it stops. Since I am not physically there I can't be of much service.
