Teach me how to make a custom avatar?

Alright, so pretty much what I did to make my avatar [which is a little bad, but hey whatever] was first choose what I wanted.

Obviously, I chose a scene from a CF CGI movie. Anyhow, I took the image and pasted it into GIMP [it should work the same for Photoshop]. I edited the picture, etc etc. I took the rectangle tool and traced around the picture, making sure I made a square. I then took the traced area and scaled it down to a 100x100 picture. I opened a new document and pasted it as a 100x100, then saved it as a jpeg.

And here it is uploaded.

If you have photoshop do this:
Go to "file" "new" and in the size use "pixels" and put 100x100



Now choose one image that you like i use this one



Drag it for the program or go to "file" "open"
Choose the "move tool" or press V and drag the image to the other image that you created
It should look like this in the layers map



Now go to "edit" "free transform" or press "ctrl + T" and hold the key "shift" and resize it until it fits the way you want in the square.
