Who won the vietnam war?

*cough*

That would be the Americans trying to load hundreds of people on a single helicopter at their embassy during the Fall of Saigon. According to many books I've read, the only reason why they didn't withdraw was because of their pride. They have never lost a war so far in their glorious history, so why begin now? Are they the chosen leader of the world, of God, that they should judge people hate communists? Who antagonized the other first, democracy or communism? They labeled communists as evil, but in the end, wasn't cooperation, mutual understanding and bilateral change for a better future of humanity better? The late Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau certainly understood this, his vision of a 'Just Society', tolerance and acceptance with a basic set of rules. (I am Canadian in case you haven't caught on.) -
Actually, in 1812 the US tried to conquer us (Canada), but phailed. Technically, NOT being able to absorb us should count as a defeat, but they just called it a stratigic retreat.ComplexMind wrote: »*cough*

The war propaganda failed and the U.S had to withdraw. It was North vs. South Vietnamese, communist vs. democratic.
If the U.S had of continued, not to be cruel or anything, the North (and most of the South) would have been completely decimated. The use of napalm and similar weapons were just destroying everything. Civilians were extremely hard to tell apart, and even the South and North forces were similar. Basically, the total death toll reached over 1.5 million.
Also, America has 'lost' wars before, even to us Canadians. -

This.
The efficiency of napalm was questioned late in the war. Civilian losses where far above acceptable, and it became apparent that this war would not end with special forces, but with special agencies. -
Just curious, tried googling it but to much random answers. The Soviet Union did. For all they did was supply the weapons to the Viet Cong and wait for the Viet Cong and the US military to murder each other out. After that, Vietnam was easy pickings for the Commies. They installed their own chosen Vietnamese dictator, who continued the killing spree for several more years, and made most of the Vietnamese regret the US military ever pulling out.
So in short: Who won the Vietnamese war? The ones that were indirectly part of it and made the most profit from the losses.

Though the term, Vietnam War, is used. It was not a war. It was a Military Conflict. There was NO Declaration of War made. The United States has never lost a war (lost conflicts by not wars). This is why we salute with our palms hidden, as opposed to palms showing (as in surrender).
Just a tidbit of info....The Salute came from the old days when men wore Suits of Armor. The only way to identify yourself to someone was to lift the metal visor....thus the born of the Salute.
