Firstly before you do anything, you could tell us your manufacture, such as Dell, Hp, etc. The best solution that you can do is talk to online support with this problem. The reason why I ask for you manufacturer because you'll sometimes need more then just getting a new copy of windows. Like the restore disk etc.
. They have some nice cheap kits that can fix this. I know my Windows XP kit cost about 10bucks. -

Normally when you buy a laptop you should get the original CD with it that contain the drivers and the OP. But It seem that you don`t know much about comp. so better that you get help from someone who got the abilities to do it for you. Good luck -

Haven't read any of the post before me so if this has been mentioned already forgive me.
Have you visted newegg.com or tigerdirect.com. I'm thinking for about $300-$500 you can build your own pc that will run CF just fine.

Yeah sounds like you either have a corrupt OS or a dead/dieing hard drive, either way i would suggest using Puppy Linux to back up any files you have on your computer you want before trying to fix it.

Its basically a OS on a disk so you just boot to disk with it in the disk drive and you can access your files on your hard drive and copy them to a flash drive or a external hard drive. -

No worries. You can always play Mahjong solitaire. -
All Windows have the repair features. This is why it's best to make the backup disk when you first purchase the CPU, for instances like this when you need to roll your CPU back. In most cases, the manufacturer sell recovery kits for $25 tops (that's including S&H) that will repair, and/or clear your CPU; Starting as the factory shipped product.

My laptop had that same error...turns out the hard drive got fried...Now that I think of it...the laptop would get reallll hot...but I would always ignore it until the hard drive finally gave in. xD -
Not the OS. HDD = Fried.IMHO, it's way to expensive. $100? I charge $35-$50 for doing a full service (Installing O.S,drivers,software,and cleaning the hardware) but here in Mexico, and even some people dare to claim that it's too much

Oh and I called Gateway support. I have to send it in to a repair service in Texas. Gonna give me a new HDD for free, since it's still under warranty. I'm coming back from the beach on Wednesday, hopefully it will be fixed by then... Hopefully...
