Origin of spray

How did it come into FPS games? As far as I know most FPS game has spray logo , what was the point of it?

I would guess Counter Strike was the first to use them.

Yeah i think its for fun and strategy. Like the crouching person spray is like a decoy. and cover.

Put sitting fire spray behind a smoke in a good location and you got yourself a vital moment of confusion to pick them off.

Worked better with our old smokes though, thin smoke adds to the illusion.
