CoD style perks?

Do you think adding a few.... or even a shed load of these would unbalance the game?

Personally I like the perks on CoD (Except noob martyr) On CF we have an incredible amount of ranks, which require an insane amount of xp to get through... (just look at farmer Adiga... not even highest rank....) And so many later ranks offer no rewards whatsoever.

Could we use these later ranks to unlock some perks, or 'character traits'? Personally, I like traits which cancel each other out, and do not give a massive advantage, ie; (Jugger vs Stopping Power on CoD)

From watching the CGI promo for CF China, I imagine BL to have more maneuverability and better stealth tactics, and GR to have higher firepower and (perhaps) a greater choice of weapons.

CoD has what?... 10-20 different perks at most... If the community here got together I'm sure we could think of thousands, and use those to narrow it down to a hundred or so which have equal and opposing advantages/disadvantages.

I'm not talking insane advantage perks... just some really simple ones... eg; tough guy=5% more hitpoints (at the cost of movement speed perhaps)... could help those low ping players last a half second more to counter. Basically, just some very minor advantages and disadvantages which help players create a more customized character to their playing style and weapon choice.

Opinions please....

  • Hmm... I don't think such a system would suit CF. Now it's only my opinion, but the CF's playstyle is far different from CoD, and it shall stay like this.
  • I agree completely, which is why I asked whether you think this would unbalance the game. To be honest, I like the purity of CF, it is the direct descendant of Counter Strike and Tactical Ops (UT mod)

I just think that further depth can only add to the experience, which is why I said that any 'traits' should remain VERY minor, and not offer anyone a major advantage.

Personally, I would like to see different traits for the opposing factions, and not a general choice for all. Just some very small things, such as +5% accuracy for crouched snipers, countered by -5% weapon change speed, and so on.
  • Ooor you can stay on CoD, and have those traits and not have them on the Cross Fire. It's been suggested before... quite a few times and never been put in. Cross Fire is a fast paced FPS where areas a trait/perk system would just slow down the gaming speed...

If you went into a real battle, do you think your going to get a 5% health boost at the cost of 5% of your max running speed. I don't think so... You think you'll gain more bullet damage than the guy next to you cause of a perk.. No, if your both using a M4A1 and shoot a guy in the leg, it'd do the same exact thing...
  • crossfire with perks..STUPID! okay, here..lemme explain to you why COD is a pretty bad fps..
-HIGHER LVL, better perks better guns..OWNAGE

enough said..is it like that in crossfire? no! zp? so! i can own zp ppl..yaya flame all you want..cod is lvl based, high lvl..high chance of ownage..low lvl..gg if you get into a room with high lvl ppl..cod is only good for their realism and gun mods, other than that..i hate it's lvl power..crossfire WILL be better without any of cods "adjustments"
  • I like this idea. Too some degree.
@Church ooor you can stick to CF where you belong and not belittle people :)
I would love to see the 'thousands' of threads made about this idea. Until then well yea. :)
  • ok, points taken. It was just a thought, as I tend to like anything that adds to the depth of a game.

As for real combat.... I don't think either CoD or CF could be compared to this... maybe the original Op Flashpoint is the only game that comes anywhere near. Can you imagine being in combat and seeing an enemy squad come 'hopping' towards you.... it would be a massacre ;-)

Your example - Being shot in the leg - would have the same effect on people, but they would react differently. Some people feel less pain than others.

I don't think high level in CoD really gave that much advantage. Experience and map knowledge usually beats any unlocked items or traits.

Well, anyway... as I said, just a thought to guage some reaction. I expect we will see this sort of thing come into play after a while, but not through 'traits' - rather through new items and gear.

Thanks for the replies. I'll go think of some new weapons, items, and gear that could allow for greater customization.

Lemme give you a couple of ideas, maybe a couple of new guns/maps shall be a good idea :p Try thinking about wich ones will suit CF, nice try on the idea anyways.
  • I like the idea of perks and traits. I mean they can try them out in beta right?
