Going Prone

Hello. I think Z8 should allow the character to lie down. Accuracy would be slightly better then crouching. Your head would only be able to turn 180 degrees. Speed moving would be slower than crouching (a little). It would also depend on what weapon you have. The heavier the slower.

  • I think this is a good idea it would be good for sniping and maybe for ghosts as well
  • Honestly I think the current maps are too small to make going prone effective for anything other than glitching into areas that we aren't suppose to get into.

I know how proning helps you with sniping from my Delta Force days, but their maps were a 100 times larger and sniping actually meant something there. Here I don't see it being effective and only cause more problems than benefits.

  • I agree with Jingle, but also concede to the opposing pov by Lolli.

Prone would add a little more tactical depth, and would be great for some modes and maps... however... I can't imagine prone adding anything to Egypt or Ship, or even Monoco or other close range maps. Already (even though crouch gives more accuracy) I have found that on small maps, a standing player has more headshot chance than a crouching player.

The question is, would adding a little more tactical depth subtract from the fast and frenzied combat already on offer? In theory I would love a prone ability, but would it work in practice? It could change the pace of the game entirely.

Perhaps something worth testing out on some future beta releases before going public with it.

True. That might change the game totally. Plus, Lolli was right about glitching.
  • I don't think the engine would support that idea, since it's based on Quake's.
  • 1) It would slow down the gameplay.
    2) The maps aren't really designed for going prone, there are a lot of ledges that would completely block your line of sight if you were to prone. You'ld already have to go prone out in the open or on a place that limits your line of sight. Both options are worse than standing/crouching, even when camping.
    3)

Snipers going prone in this game would be dead if they miss. You'ld be way too slow to crawl into cover before the enemy gets his shot.
    4) Only thing I see it being good for is crawling from the middle into B through the crack (Mine) or camping under a car (although there are damage spots inside of cars, so underneath them probably as well)

Absolutely.... CF is about mid-range to close-range combat. The idea of prone is tempting... but the practice of it... unlikely to work. This game is not Operation Flashpoint. I totally love oldskool Op-Flash, but... prone on a fast paced TDM/S+D style game... In my opinion it would change the style of the game too much, and as mentioned - the possible glitches would add unbearable hours to gametesters workload. The maps are made for the engine to work as it is. Any deviation from this would be difficult to keep up with.

Sorry... off topic post... but... I couldn't help but notice that you said this game is based on Quake architecture.

'Drool.....'.... Does that mean that I can use GTK Radient to create maps for CF? Actually, this should have a thread all of its own.... user/community created maps. GTK Radient is a very popular level/map editor, hell - I even used to use this to do freelance professional work, so.... where are the user created maps???

I think having a community based map editor, or community based map making community would add to the game tenfold, and also release pressure on developers to create maps so that they can concentrate on more important things.... such as new game modes, and improving new game modes, as well as adding content.

After all, this is a 'free to download' 'free to use' shooter. Sure, the developers own the IP, but they rely on the users to provide and add to that.... A map editor would surely expand that IP and add to the developers interest as well as the users....

I love CF, but after playing for several months I find that the maps are too few. I'm satisfied with being above average and having a new challenge rather than being mega-pro (such as CS dust players) on one or few maps.

And I know that this community has many a talented person, and many people like myself who could add maps to the repertoire of CF.

Maybe this has been mentioned in a previous thread, but after reading your comment I could not help but reply.... The CF community is very capable of producing its own maps and even other content.... We need Z8 to realize this and offer incentives for those who add to the IP.
  • Oh hell no. Don't make it into a Warrock please. Where people can instantly prone and drop shot you right infront of you -./--

I think BlindRob remade Egypt with the Quake map thingie....
All content comes from the Asian devs, I doubt they'll just let anyone make maps.
