How to Play Cross Fire on Laptop (this is a question!!)
Hello,
I am wondering how many players play Cross Fire from their laptops the majority of the time. I've played on my Windows XP P.C. since I joined one year ago, give or take several days. It's a Compaq Presario w/ ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 w/ AMD Sempron 3200+ (although it's suppose to clock at 1.8 GHz, for reasons unexplainable, the so-called 'Cool n' Quiet makes it run at 1.0 GHz), it runs acceptably most of the time, but on larger maps it gets somewhat laggy, despite my ping being below 15 most of the time (Rogers is Canada's Most Reliable Internet Provider, As Proven by Independent Sources [funded by Rogers]).
I have a new much more sophisticated laptop, but am finding it very awkward controlling my sprite from the screen. I have an external mouse, but it is quite weird having to extend my hand all the way to the front of the screen. Everything moves too slow or too fast (it is widescreen), how do you guys play it?
Merci Beaucoup,
Complex-Mind.

I like desktops because they are generally more powerful than laptops for a MUCH better price. I am going to be buying a 3.0ghz DUO soon. Which is 6ghz of processor speed for $55... I think that is good... Dunno about you guys though... that is just my opinion

i play on a dell laptop ,got it round 3 years ago & it was new then.and i dont know anything about ghz or whatever. All i know is i play with a touchpad, the fan is broken so it overheats really fast. I'm beast if my fps is over 30,but i only get like 20 mins of this before i overheat.
i might buy a mouse sometime, cuz i think this touchpad is wearing down or something.
might try buy a proper pc after this fckin recession. -
Thanks for all the input, looks like this playing on a laptop will require some experience to be good at. ^^All i know is i play with a touchpad, the fan is broken so it overheats really fast. I'm beast if my fps is over 30,but i only get like 20 mins of this before i overheat.
What if it blows up?! You must be very careful... Overheating will increase the likelihood of IC failure, watch out~!!might try buy a proper pc after this fckin recession.
Isn't it cheapest during the recession? -
I play on a laptop, 40 fps in 8v8 room. I still fps lag a lot though. It seems to be when I plug my headphones in. Don't know why headphones would cut my fps in half though -.-
The sensitivity is weird, my mouse is wireless, and when the battery starts to die I can tell it takes more swipes to do a 360 than normal
So yea, apart from fps lag, spotty mouse sensitivity, and the occasional ping spiking from the usual 80 to 130-140... I'd say it's just fine

i prefer my laptop tbh, the keys are lighter and less deep than my desktop, makes it easier i find...
88 sensitivity
and 45 for zoom
also i have my laptop at a small angle to my mouse, just a quirk i guess but i frag better on my lappie than my desktop.
60 FPS on a good day
about 30 in a 8vs8 -
Wouldn't let me edit? Hmm...BobbyBlackk wrote: »I prefer my laptop over a desktop; External mouse, 500 GB Free space, 8 GB RAM, Quad Processor + 1 TB External drive (where Cross Fire is actually installed). I generally run 98.6 FPS, but lately my FPS have been dropping to 40 FPS ALOT!

Last PC was a Windows 95. Always found laptops more convenient.
My main computer lags, so I don't game with it anymore. Has 1GB RAM, Mobile Intel 915GML, and 1.7GHz Pentium.
My other laptop is an Asus. It recently got its FPS back (was blocked down to 12 for a month, now it's back up between 30-90). Has nVidia GeForce 9300M, 4GB RAM, and 2.26GHz Centrino 2 Duo.
A good laptop gives a pretty good gaming experience. Only if you want crazy FPS would you need a gaming PC. -
The only computer i have that runs crossfire is my laptop.. 2gig dual core processor and 3gb ram onboard video because i originally bought it for music production. I can get about 20-25 fps in 8v8 games, 5v5s i can get around 30-40 but i had to tweak a lot of things to get it that way.
Make sure all the fancy visual effects are off if you use vista, make sure you close EVERY process that is irrelevant using the ctrl alt delete menu, gamebooster actually does help me get more fps, make sure your laptop is set to performance instead of power saver for battery settings (this alone got my fps 10-20 higher) make sure that your video card is using the most updated drivers.
those are just a few things that can help you improve crossfire play on a laptop, my only complaint is that laptop keyboard f1 is RIGHT next to the number keys so i accidently hit f1 sometimes when im quickswitching on sniper.
