It depends what mode your playing
If your playing Ghost Mode, I recommend not spraying with it, and by that, I mean dont waste your ammo shooting at nothing, if you see a ghost, just shoot at either the head or chest.
If your playing TDM, just try your best to aim for the head, chest shot is ok too, you can camp or rush in with it, for camping, dont stay in one spot too long. -
I don't think there's much you can do with a shotgun, except for point and shoot (correct me if I am wrong). Don't spam it if you have a full clip, remember you can reload and fire the bullets 1 by 1. Use your extra versatility to your advantage, and always try to engage in shorter range.

It's prety much what Lumic said, allways reload after a shot if you're not facing anyone cause even if someone shows you can take a shot. If you see anyone from behind don't start shooting like crazy try to get as close as possible with out him realizing. Allways aim a little lower of the head.
And try to avoid open spaces and playing with the XM in big maps.
I've managed to be ace with it in pubs you just have to get used to it. -
shotguns are only good for close range, and most of the time if you are close enough to kill someone with a shotgun, you will be killed. or possibly killed before you even get in range with it. Im not hating on shotty's because i am pretty good with them myself, but i whould prefer my awm and stay far away from the enemy.

Rush, rush, rush, If your caught in a mid range might your most likely gonna lose, long range your pretty much screwed. Carry a pistol, I prefer a deagle for my xm
