Suddenly crashing to desktop all the time

Okay, so I decided to get back into crossfire a few days ago, and have had little problems with it, until now. This morning, I started getting issues with the game crashing to desktop (with no error message) at the end of a match, when it would normally go to the page that shows everyone's exp/gold. Now, it's even doing it in the middle of matches.

I also have issues with the login screen getting stuck. I can start the game fine by directly opening the patcher, but when I open the usual icon, then pull up the game, the login screen shows and I put in my username/password and hit okay, but nothing happens. The ok button goes grey and I can't click it, but there's still a blinking cursor in the text box and I can still click exit, but it just never logs in. If I let it sit for a REALLY long time, it'll eventually say I've been disconnected from the server and when I click okay, it closes the whole game out.

Hardware specs:

Windows Vista Home Basic
3GB RAM
AMD Athlon Dual Core 2.0 GHz
NVidia 8200M G
Compaq Presario CQ50Z (computer model)
Clearwire (ISP)
No router

Any help would be much appreciated.

i seem to be getting this problem too :P well only the first part, where after the game ends it goes straight to desktop, its right after a game ends and before u go to see who got MVP

happens to me all the time now......feel so ripped off. they need to fire people.

Unfortunately, a lot of free online mmo's have these issues. The thing is, the makers of Crossfire aren't some huge company with a few million dollars to dump into a game. Hell, I doubt the engine is actually their making, it's probably a cookie cutter program set up for upstart game developers to use to create their game in the form of an open source engine.

I really do think there should be more funding for games like this, but the problem is that the company that actually makes them doesn't have the funding to do so. I can honestly say I wouldn't ever pay for anything on crossfire with real money in the current state it's in, but I wouldn't complain about the quality of it as a free game, either.

Then again, from your post, I'm assuming you did pay, but in that case, you really should take your time deciding if a game is one you really want to get into before you spend money on it. That's the advantage of free to play games is that you can do that for an unlimited amount of time.


Anyway, I still seem to be having issues with the default loader. I'm about to run the patch directly and see if I'm still having the crash issue. Wondering if it might have something to do with Vista. If anyone else having this problem could post some system specifications, maybe we could narrow down the possible culprits.

EDIT: Oh, btw, I have UAC disabled.

i upgrade from vista to window 7 and it stopped doing that

mee too , as up to day , i can't even play one match , it crashed and people stop running , then it go back to the lobby again .

yes it happens to me too after every game, I agree z8 please find a solution for us...
