whats cf like now?
probably 95% of you dont know who i am, but i used to be active on the forums(probably 5 years ago) and used to play quite a bit. i had to stop playing because the game was just getting too hard to enjoy with all of the hackers and just the terrible in-game community. has it gotten any better recently? id like to start playing again but i dont know if i should even try the game without at least getting a heads up on what to expect in-game.

Hackwise, CrossFire is quite well off, I have barely seen any in months.
Communitywise, you still have the select few raging at you for being better than them, but they are running an experiment right now by disabling Kickvoting in all Modes, so you won't have to be afraid of getting kicked.
If you do end up playing a few rounds, give your impressions about the Kickvote on here, as it seems they want to collect impressions from veterans and retired veterans alike.

that happened to me as well, but i left for different reasons, However...
There are less h-ackers.
NA is dead, Somewhat.
UK is... good, You can find a couple of UK players each game, or you could just find a UK based clan and you're good.
CWs are kinda dead.
Community is not as good as it used to be back in 10/11/12, But it's "fine".

There is new VIP system that gives you 200% exp boost (remember in 2009 there used to be only 2 marshals?ADIGA and
Phoenix?well now there are 3-4 marshals in every room)
Hackers are gone(well at least I haven't seen 1 in the last 2 years...maybe it because I don't play ranked
)
Community is much better & not as active as it used to be back in 2011 but at least nowadays no one is trying to bush no one
UK 4 is full with overpowered m4 vips + other pay2win stuff...the rest of the UK servers are full of egyptian with free tmp or free ebr + free armor
Oh and there are loads on events that giving you loads of free ZP crates (if you see in every room 3-4 smile accounts with golden Barrett's?don't panic) =D -
I haven't really seen any hackers for awhile now and it's definitely better than before.
Community is okay, nothing too bad.
NA servers are doing fine but there's only 3-4 channels full while UK has their servers stacked :P
There are some fun events going on, one is the Halloween Costume Event through all of October where you have to dress up as a CF character or from any other game and the prizes are a permanent weapon of your choice, ribbon, also your IGN as a bot in the simulation mode. Pretty cool prizes if you ask me. -
You're back after 5 years? That's a lot... You will see how much the game changed in certain parts. We have amazing new 100$ guns and characters (which are also given out for free, so everyone can enjoy them completely), a little bit of English speaking players (ones you can't farm on), and a couple bugs which are going to be fixed relatively soon (they are working on it).
There are many new modes. Some of them are fun some aren't, so it just depends on you if you're going to play them.
We also have a ranked mode which is... not so fun due to people running around speedhacking, aimbotting and stuff (atleast it was a month ago, when I tried to play).
Play a couple games and you will see how much this game advanced since you left! -
ahhh i have played up until 2-3 years ago, i have a vip m4 dont like using it though, only have it for the exp boost haha. but i was once pretty active on the forums about 5 years ago. is the ranked mode similar to MM in csgo? thanks for the tips and all the help everybody!

With the low amounts of players playing ranked, it's rather hard to get matched up with players of an equal skill level.
That, and Hackers have been predominantly spotted there, so I'd be careful. -

Hack city in ranked matched right now. Cant do event. -
You don't have to worry about the hackers anymore, jus stay away from the ranked matches.
Alpha and Bravo server, now called NA1 and NA2 aren't that they were anymore, they're almost die.
And last and most important thing, now there are VIP weapons, those almost kill by itselves
