What happened to Open/Pro?

I understand what you are saying but you have to realize that you cant expect teams to pop up out of the blue.

You have to give them a reason to compete, a reason to get better and stay together as a team longer.

Other than Prizes, the Open/Pro division setup would really get people talking and create more momentum for the growth of the online competitive scene.

A Pro Division by definition would mean that there would have to be 8-16 teams worthy of being in a professional division. You can't just slap on a label of a "Pro" division and put any teams in there. We're just not there yet. It's that simple. We're giving people plenty of reasons to compete. They just have to get up, get signed up and play.

Also, the teams and players need to give themselves a reason to get better and stay together as a team longer. Again, we as an organization can't do that alone. We're not in a position to divide a very, small scene. It wouldn't be smart at this point.

I wouldn't go as far as 16, 8-12 is what you should go for if/when ESG finally decides to create a professional division. But you are right, there are roughly 3-4 teams currently that fit the bill for a P division, there's simply not enough competition and it wouldn't be smart to split up an already dwindling scene. Maybe if an increasing number of teams sign up (roughly 64) in future tournaments hosted by ESG and there are a number of teams that stood out, create a P division and go from there.

But at this current time it wouldn't be wise to do so as I don't think there is even 32 teams playing currently.
  • I keep seeing, "There's only 3-4 teams worthy of playing pro"

Like i said before.. Eveyone is use to seeing the same players/teams at the top level. We have to give new teams the chance to prove themselves.. If they cant do it they get moved back to open. Simple.
  • Lets just get some teams competing for cash prizes.

Players weren't satisfied with OCG, though they did compete. It was great to help build a base.

Everyone was waiting for the moment where we were able to partner officially with ESG. So we partnered with ESG.

Everyone was waiting for cash prizes. So we brought cash prizes.

Now everyone is working to find ways to continue to be unsatisfied. Let's encourage teams to join up, and actually participate. And let's hear some feedback about a current tournament before we start jumping on ideas that this is wrong, or isn't fun or whatever the case may be.

We're bringing the things you guys want in the best capacity for the game. Let's take this as a positive and encourage teams to get involved rather than just post opinions and speculation.

nobody's unsatisfied.. people just think it'd be nice to go back to the format that worked.

like when esg wanted to do that circuit thing.. that was dumb. pro and open is just basic..
  • open/pro can't be in existence w/o proof that teams can compete with socks/kanata

A few teams can compete with them. Put them with socks/kanata.

Sure they might not beat them instantly, but with time and practice, along with having to play those teams more often, they will get better.

I agree with having open/pro. It worked before, and why try to fix what isn't broken?

and the 'proof' would be the ending results of this upcoming esg tournament!!!!!!!!!!

Kanata's not currently signed up, but I suppose it would be reasonable that the top 10 competitors were invited to a pro division in the next tournament. However it couldn't just be places 1st-10th invited, because something along the lines of Socks vs Kanata first round might happen, and the loser wouldn't be invited to Pro.

i wouldn't expect that to happen, and i would assume that the current esg tournament is to have playoffs/etc so the ending results are representative of teams' skill level

we will see how it plays out though

just remember esg, everyone wants a perm spray!!!!!!!!
  • Even if the good times come back, you people will find a way to ruin it. Inb4 Wizdom calls me a racist for saying "you people".

I've always been a huge fan of unique items like that..

    Hopefully in the future!
  • Always the same teams that play :P
Yeah, there should be a group for the new teams that want to join Competitive CF.
