Question to the Americans

Just Let It Go?
Im American And I don't believe most Americans are mad about 9/11. but to say... Let it go. What is wrong with remembering the dead and giving them respect? The better question is when is enough blood going to satisfy the War Mongers? We have been killing people every since 9/11.
7/7 you say, Why do they have a 7/7 Memorial? Its what people do. The better Question on 7/7 would be Why were there drills going on the same day, as what happen? But then again I don't want to be called a conspiracy nut.
You see its not only Americans do these things, people are people no matter where they are. So go and post all the threads on 7/7 you would like. But in the mean time,
Get a heart...... -
One of my serious posts
I agree for the most part. For people who do remember, however, myself included, it was definitely a tragic and painful event. My age seems to be the cut-off for actually remembering the event. Despite only being in 1st grade, I remember the day very vividly. I live around 10 miles from the Pentagon, and my parents were both working in DC. The school was evacuated because nobody understood what was going on. Parents were instructed to pick their kids up, so the scene was chaotic and confusing. There were a lot of parents crying, trying to explain to their children what had transpired. My mom eventually picked me up, but this was before cell phones so (because of the lack of knowledge of the situation) we had no way of knowing my dad's whereabouts. He eventually came home, but just seeing my parents so visibly perturbed left an indelible impression on me.
The Aftermath: there were several people in our community that had lost loved ones that day and a few others that consequently were deployed to Afghanistan. I still remember watching the newscast that day, and the solemnity that the news anchor Peter Jennings expressed. It struck me with an ineffable sadness and disbelief to watch those planes repeatedly disintegrate into the towers. 9/11 represents a marked shift in American society. A different era began after that day. I agree that most of the language and attitude associated with this day is misappropriated and ultimately detrimental, but there is an undeniable importance attached to this day. It is a day in history, much like Dec 7th 1941, that lives in infamy and should certainly not be forgotten.

Every year. 9/11... Never forget... Why?
Do you not think that people dont want to have to relive the day year after year after year? That the people that lost their loved ones in the towers want to remember how they felt that day.. hearing their husbands voice as their plane headed towards the towers?
THEY wont forget. They dont need to be reminded every year that their family died...
The Freedom tower is the memorial the attack deserves... to rebuild what was destroyed... a symbol that human spirit wont be broken so easily as the families of those that died rebuild their families.
But to have this EVERY year... photos of their family dying posted on the internet.. their final moments... Would you want that? Every year...?
Yeah it was a tragedy.... but its needs to be let go... America needs to move on. -
I agree we we need to move on. However, we should always remember the fact that the U. S. is indeed, not invincible. I think that is why most people do this every year. To remember those who died in arguably the worst tragedy on American soil and also as a reminder of what is possible in today's world.
To summarize, I think that people do this every year because it was very influential in millions of people's lives. It's like having a funeral for a loved one. That person had an impact in your life and you want to respect that person.
To try and answer the "why are teenagers mad" part, I would say the majority of them aren't really "mad". It's just having a sense of pride for your country and wanting the best as a whole. As has been said, it's hard to understand without having personal experience of American culture. As per the stereotype, we are prideful people. -
Simply put, this is what is programmed into the brain, I think its stupid to build structures to remind us of horrors. I agree we should move on. But I also agree that people have the right to remember and grieve for lost ones. But then again we as all people have been doing this since the beginning of time.
What I hate is the propaganda these things bring.
And I will finish with: U.S.A yes indeed we are the bad*** of the world. -
I was 5 years old in Kindergarten when this happened. I'm 17 years of age now.
This day does mean a lot to me... People in the country I live in, innocent people, died. Whether it was a set up or it was actually terrorist. (People have their opinions on what they think happened and I respect those opinions). I live near Chicago, a possible target for a terrorist attack. This attack threatened our national security. We lost 3000+ people in 2001 on 9/11.
When I walk around Chicago and go to the city in general, you have that fear of the possibility of something like that happen. Just being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I want to go into Law Enforcement and I mainly remember those who are sworn to Protect & Serve. (Police Officers, Firefights, & National Guard) People whose lives didn't need to be put at risk do it because that's just how they work. People run from the fire, the shots, and the bombs. In this case, the attack. Those men and women who "Protect & Serve", run to those things. Some of them died trying to save our people. That is why this day means a lot to me. Because if I had to, I would do the same thing to protect. So, I have deep respect for those service men and women who lost their lives. This is also a day to show appreciation to those who would have done the same but didn't have to make that ultimate sacrifice because they weren't there.
Now, Giggletron, you stated that why don't we have memorial days or days of remembrance for tragedies that occur outside our country or for tragedies we may have cause. Well, I will ask you this, does any country remember an "outsiders" tragedy? No, I don't believe so. I've never heard of such a thing. But I will tell you this, those children who are starving, or those people in Syria, or people in the world will always have people who care. I don't know even know how many foundations and non-profit organizations dedicate their time and put efforts into helping people outside of our country because thats how we Americans are. A majority of us care about ourselves and what happens in our country. But we are more then willing and go beyond to help others in need. -

Is that why we have one of the girders from the WTC as a memorial to 9/11 in the UK?

But the US knew it was coming, and didn't do anything. They had already planned for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. -

Well your contradicting yourself now because you said you guys have all these different attacks happen to you and you guys don't sit back and dread on it. But you memorize the very thing your saying we should move on from. -
i take it more as a symbol of something that us as a nation are STILL involved in (even though we shouldn't be) since our own money and friends are being sent over to fight quasi-wars in the middle east
but believe me, i agree that most children these days have no idea what it's about/why they're honoring it -

Theres a difference between having a physical memorial put up and pointing the same thing out every single year like it happened yesterday. -
Giggletron wrote: »Why is the average American teen so mad about 9/11 when they were like.... 3 when it happened.... and dont know anyone killed in the attacks.
Is it because you are all so easily brainwashed and told what to think, feel and believe?
Why does it concern you SO much?
Id understand if a family member died but most people mad about it didnt KNOW anyone that died and/or were too young to remember....
The UK have had several terrorist attacks, namely the 7/7 attacks but noone in the UK but the families of those killed really remember or are bothered by it several years down the line... But you guys all mark it as an anniversary and make it seem almost a public holiday or even worshiped.
Every year its the same.... "9/11" this... "Never forget" that... Can I start posting 7/7 threads?
Can I start posting threads in the memory of those civilians that lost their lives to the Americans in the Middle East?
Or does that not concern you because it doesn't make you lot look like a victim?
Ok, yeah, it was a sad, horrific event... but it was 12 years ago now... Let it go.
Just looking at some replies on the forum over the years on the threads... barely any of you even remember it because you were so young... but when I start poking the bear... you all jump on me saying how sad it was... YOU WERE 2! The saddest thing you probably had happen to you then was when you stood on the cat and it clawed the crap out of you or when you dropped your ice cream!
Just let it go.
