Should OCG host events on Mumble or Ventrilo Server?

You saw what happened with CGL. I don't think there's any voting as to what people want.
We are working to catch this ddoser, but first we want to see what the community would like, as there has been alot of asking for both types of servers. -

No offense to your investigation or anything, but the chances of you finding the person who is DOSing you is probably slim to none. You're wasting your time. -
Just make sure it doesn't get ddosed again lol....
From what I was told, Mumble servers don't have DDOS Issues, and if they do its rare. Though that is only what I heard. We are working to find this DDOSER and we will be posting updates/announcements in the next days of any updates. -

i'd like to beg to differ. just wait for it -
Switching from vent to mumble isn't going to help your DDOS'ing issue if that's why you're switching over... But personally I like mumble 100x better than vent. On mumble there's no static crap, whenever you hold down your hotkey in vent you hear that beep noise and in mumble it's muted, the voice latency is soooooooo much better.

Your right DDOSERS can DDOS anything, though what I mean't to say was that maxfrag has better protection for DDOSERS on a mumble server than their ventrilo server, from what they told me. -

If the Ddosers want to mess up your events. It will happen. Best of luck. -

I could also ddos (not saying i did ddos you guys) but there is a way you can stop this, by getting ddos protection. Most likely the power of the ddoser has about 2-4 gbs which is strong enough to ddos someone that doesnt have a good ddos protection. Here is a good ddos protection and which is pretty cheap to buy.

if you buy their ddos protection the ddoser probably can't ddos you again. -

Fixed all of that for you. -

Getting a mumble would make little to no different from an attackers standpoint nor are they more or less protected than a Ventrilo server.Your right DDOSERS can DDOS anything, though what I mean't to say was that maxfrag has better protection for DDOSERS on a mumble server than their ventrilo server, from what they told me.
They have virtually no protection on either of their voice servers other than a mid-end hardware firewall (likely a cisco ASA 5520 at best) MaxFrag's datacenter(s) which are mainly provided by Ubiquity have a decent infastructure for mitigating DDoS and better tools to find the attacker but obviously not good enough to prevent from whoever is attacking or catch them (sending in an abuse report doesn't take long if you have proper evidence, so some action would have been taken by now if they have an idea)Blackfaceown wrote: »I could also ddos (not saying i did ddos you guys) but there is a way you can stop this, by getting ddos protection. While such services are growing in popularity, this is not a provider to be considering as they have terrible redundancy and nowhere near fair pricing for the amount of protection it provides. (most don't)
IP-filtering techniques such as the one this company (Staminus) uses are a decent idea but they increase latency to the main server simply because how it works.
Anti-DDoS companies that provide a "proxy" like service to filter out requests to your real IP work something like this (drawn out in Photoshop);
In summary, you would connect to the IP of the "filtering" server which in turn would route traffic directly to your server (the real server IP would not be revealed unless you made no attempt to hide it or it leaked elsewhere)
Be aware, services like this are quite expensive (those that are cheap probably do not work well or oversell) and will only work up to some point (or the point they guarantee, Staminus would protect against 1.5 GBps within a decent price range (.5GBps + 1GBps uplink)
So unless you want to pay upwards of $1,000+/month for DDoS protection (which might not even help in this case) then I'd suggest you find a more popular host. (more popular host = more likely to be attacked due to number of clients and therefore should have more protection against such attacks)
Good luck.
