Computer Problem - Pros needed!

after about 30 minutes of playing graphics intense games, my pc just shuts down. Don`t know the exact temperature when it does that, but I already set the GPU onboard fan to a higher speed.

System is slightly overclocked, I didn`t change anything though and it used to be fine.

Dust is not a problem, also cable management is taken care of so friendo can breath easy.

Specs

Bulldozer CPU
AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB
Win7 64b, 8GB Ram

help much appreciated!

thanks!

  • no need to be pro. pretty simple.

    clean it, inside out.

    it is very clean.
  • This used to happen to mine, the pc used to make a *pzzeww* noise and then shut down

It was some hard drive problem that I had and I couldn't be bothered fixing it so I just replaced the hard drive with a new one and it works fine now.
  • Could be a power supply problem. May not have enough wattage or just a faulty power supply to begin with.
  • The overclock you have might not be stable, need to add voltage or lower clock speeds. AMD CPUs are terrible too.
edit: I used to have my 3930K at 4.8 GHz which I thought was stable for a few weeks but it started crashing so I lowered it to 4.6.
  • Check your Event Viewer to see what events are happening when/just before it shuts down. If there's anything try searching for that.
  • Have you reinstalled you graphics drivers?

I will look into that. Mine is just gone. No strange sound or blue screen..

Thinking about it, it might be the psu. The way ithe pc just dies would suggest that.

It is a pretty conservative overclock. I didn't do it and it was stable for over a year. No high
Temps or any problems at all.

Thanks for that. Didn't know about this event viewer. Gave me error id 41 for the two crashes. Will look into that tomorrow.

Not yet, will do tomorrow. Thanks I might need some analysis tools for a stress test. If anyone knows a good one...

    Good night and thanks everyone!

    Good night

ID 41 is when you shut down without clicking on shut down and waiting for the full procedures. basically, a hard shutdown

    prime95 for CPU/RAM, afterburner/Kombustor for GPU.

used both programs. my GPU temp never get`s over 75 degrees celsius.

I opened the pc, cleaned off some dust, checked all the connectors, changed the PSU power cable. I ll check if it still crashes...
did you try turning it off and on?

    well, yeah? obviously :)
  • UPDATE:

problem still persists or occured again. can´t really say, since I only played
cf a few times, which never made my system crash.

    ran kombustor tests....

    9ixBhQt.jpg

stress test (manually stopped after 21min, temperature never higher than 71°C)

in the meantime I did format my drives and reinstalled my OS. Using the latest driver (not the beta one), dusted off everything again.

I have no idea what to check next..The crashes happened while playing BF4, will try other games now.
  • are you 100% sure it isn't the CPU? and have you checked crash logs?

now that you are bringing up the power topic...It reminds me of something that happened two times a few months ago. Plugged in something into
this extender power cable - connected to a wall socket -, which resulted in a power outage in my house.

I exchanged the extender and a few weeks after that it happened again. Is it possible that the wall socket is defect? PSU is a

you might have a loose connection on that circuit causing a discharge, more than likely a failing outlet,

are all of your outlets wired on one circuit for multiple rooms?

or when it goes out you have to go to the circuit box and hit the switch back after you break it?

and how old are the outlets?

You should try a different outlet first if you can in the same room, if it still happens, try an outlet in a different room using an extension cord.

To be honest, I am an even bigger Noob when it comes to electricity.
House was built in the late 1920ies, so the wiring is prooobably substandard..:)

I ll try to connect it to another socket in another circle/room.

    thanks for now, kind sir.
