casters are a joke

  • It much harder to sound neutral when casting than you think.
  • Well when I got home the cast didn't lag at all. Then everyone went to sleep and it starts lagging every 2 seconds.. >.>
  • I don't like David casting.

I also don't like whoever is doing the streaming, he picks the worst palyers to watch at the worst times. I thought he'd be listening in and switching to whoever the casters are talking about, but guess not.
Also david uses uhm, about 3 times in a sentence

    Be the cast sir
  • It's hard to tell though on who's going to frag, but yes. I do know what you're saying.

    They say situation too much..lol

I could, however I don't find too much interest in it.

    Just saying my opinion.
  • The casters were really good, imo.
The streamer however was spectating the wrong players at the wrong time.
Overall, good cast and good games.
  • biased casters are the most fun to listen to.
one caster trying to sound impartial and cheering on both teams just sounds ridiculous most of the time.

but there needs to be two casters, obviously - one for each team.

Great unbiased casters don't "cheer on" either team.

    and its boring. :<
  • They did say situation waay too often, and how they pronounce some words were funny silly, americans. Overall it was good imo.
The streamer on the other hand *sigh*, one round its a 1 v 4 you think we would watch the 1? Negative let's watch a guy hide behind a box who is no where near where the 1 is going to enter the room from.
We also lost the feed video for a while, audio remained. All in all its a lot of time and work on their part, so thanks guys.
  • Lets look at this from another side.

No one is stepping up to cast. These people have done that, and have gone through the channels to become a part of the team people like us rely on to push the game out to you.

The casters, David and Gecks have been doing this on a few matches but everyone can still learn to do a better job.

Comments such as the original post, snarky sarcastic remarks, misinformation and direct insults are not constructive. I would dare you to get into a game and do a better job. The fact is, without constructive feedback it's impossible to look at what needs to change in order to improve the cast. People are not "born fps casters".

Also, while official journalism tries to remain biased, we're dealing with fans of the game and fans of players. It's interesting to hear their remarks on teams or matches from any position. Mostly because they have that chance to provide some of those comments.

I'd love to see more talk about strategy and thinking, biased or otherwise, but it can be difficult because rounds happen so fast!

Lastly, people need to check their egos at the door. If you are watching a cast and the caster cheers on ____ player because they just made a great kill there is nothing wrong with that. Good plays are good plays. Casters are providing play-by-play and keeping up with the action so that you can sit back and enjoy the ride. It really shouldn't matter if a few little slips get in there which might show some favoritism. Have you ever listened to a radio broadcast of a sporting event like Hockey or Baseball? The sports casters are invested in the towns and teams they broadcast for. They're allowed bias.

The problem is someone here jumps all over a caster because they might have a different opinion then their own, and then blame the caster for a poor quality cast. Gecks and David did a great job of being able to comment back and forth on different situations, and rarely did they sit there and say "This team should lose because they suck and I love the other team so they should win." In a few occasions they were trying to determine what the strategy was, saying things like "I'm not sure if I agree with that move" or, "we don't know why they keep dropping the bomb at spawn". But that's not biased casting, that's providing insights to the match that's unfolding in front of them.

So anyways, they did a great job. We got some record number viewers across the simulcast and it was great to see people turning out to watch these teams.

A huge thanks to David and Gecks for stepping up and being able to do this for 5-6 hours on a Wednesday night.
  • The only annoying thing is when they got the team names wrong, but it happens I guess.
During HT vs Carbon they called carbon, carnage a few times by mistake
  • one of the things i have for david, please stop repeating the same thing over and over. it gets really noticeable / irritating after awhile. ty
  • Caster after the game

"Yes Malte did amazing almost got a 20 bomb" (Malte had like 17 frags).

Mentions nothing about Famous who had 19 frags LOL.

Too much bias towards Lifeline. Lifeline sucks balls, I don't want to hear you sloppily sucking on Lifeline's 1 inch dic.k all stream.

Note from Saidin: Sorry, but you have also received 9 previous infractions. You have been removed from the forums for not being able to learn from previous mistakes or read the rules.

Which is funny because David is good friends with everyone from Carbon.........................

Also, please don't bypass the censorship filter.

How was I biased? I've never tried harder NOT to be biased on last nights cast. If anyone felt that I was being biased, then that just goes to show how hard it is to stay unbiased as a caster. I had friends on both teams. Of course Hammertime are my boys, but I kept the cast pretty unbiased I'd say, at least as well as I possibly could.

Casters have absolutely no right to be biased in a RUDE way. Sports casters will never disrespect a player. You will NEVER hear nba casters say "Lebron james pulling a really dumb move! Not the player to watch in this game!". They criticize with respect. During those matches you would hear things like

"fam0us completely ruining that round! He had a chance but such a dumb move! You have to shoot to kill someone what was he thinking" and all you hear is laughter from the casters..

"Harvey missing everything tonight, not the player to watch at all"

Let me tell you the goal of casters, one word. Entertain. They are here to entertain us that is their role/job as casters. If they have 600+ people watching them then there are so many different opinions among those people. For example, one person can like blitzed as a player in general, and another can hate blitzed.. Putting down players shows the low level of professionalism the casters have. You can't simply put down a player in cast, NOBODY wants to hear that. Even if the player played dumb, you can't point it out.

One more thing, Carbon was put down the most out of everybody. I didn't hear a RUDE/DISRESPECTFUL comment about ANY other teams from the casters, its way too obvious of what they did. That is not the right way to criticize players.

There are many replacement terms that can be used for RUDE words. For example "dumb" and "stupid" can be replaced for "not the smartest thing he could have done, good try on his end though."

    EDIT: David said those things

Please show me at what point during any of the matches I said things like that. I'm almost positive I personally never said those things, or anything like it. I never made rude or disrespectful comments towards any team. I casted the teams the same, or as well as I could for the most part, even if I DID have biases. I am honestly not recalling a thing you are saying. So if you point it out, I'd be glad to see it. For myself, I don't remember personally saying anything like that. If I did, then I apologize. After watching ESEA LAN finals last weekend, there were a lot of biased opinions in the cast, and I was trying extra hard not to have that happen last night on the cast.

Just to comment on what you have said.

I've been playing with Carbon for 3+ months now. I was a lot more critical but if anybody should have a problem about how I talk about Carbon, it should be them. I had a great time and I was also working hard to not be biased. It's the team I've been playing with for quite a while. It was a great match and I was happy to be able to be apart of that.

Perfect. I'm glad you were able to point out specific times and examples.

Now, instead of bashing the entire cast, casters or efforts worked to even make this happen in the first place we can discuss how to make it better in the next time.

I think after a cast 4+ hours in I'll give David a little leeway. I think you're correct, laughing and bashing a player specifically on a cast is not something that was likely intended. I think you can hear a tone in David's voice with the immediate quite after that line that it was probably not the most appropriate thing to say.

Edit: I also think that the learning will come from the other people involved in the cast too for switching to the action and to other players. The actual view needs to be switched to where the excitement is happening, and if that gets distracted or switched to a player where there is no action then we're probably going to see a slip like that.

There's an opportunity to learn what was good and bad about the cast. But the criticism can't just be from some heckler in the audience with nothing more than cursing and swearing to say.

So again, I thank you for bringing up the specific examples. And I think it's worth noting for all casters constructive criticism when they cast and learn from it to better it in the future.
