Making better streams!

CrossFire Latin America has gotten over 10,000 viewers during their BGL matches, while our version is falling way behind and only reaching 200 or so.

Is our community and players not that interested in competitive gaming or are we not doing a good enough job promoting these events?

It's kind of sad to see our version get out done by a newer one.

What can we do to get more viewers to watch our best competitive teams go head to head?

One of the biggest competitive events our version has had was the Frost Gaming LAN and that only gave us around 600 views. WCG brings more but that is not just our version.

I personally would like to see around 1,000 or more viewers for the [Final Four Elimination Tournament] which should take place Wednesday April 24th. The winner of this Tournament will go on to play in the Crossfire Global League Tournament hosted in China by Smilegate. 1st Place prize of $50,000. The teams will include
-LifeLine
-Carbon
-Carnage
-Hammertime

Lets show these teams some support and wish them the best of luck!

Please comment and share what you think we are doing wrong and what we need to do to make it better.

  • Honestly, it isn't just the competitive streams which have disappointing stream view amounts. Nonnen's events, mainly the Easter and Xmas broadcasts only got give or take 600-800 at peak times, when his recent one got 225-300 at peak time. Just to add, there was a significant amount of viewers who was there just for codes too.

So I don't think it is just the competitive scene, but it is the version itself.

I'd suggest trying to get Saidin to post on the FB Page and the client (when you open up the launcher). That's all I can think about at the moment.

What time will the final four games be BST?
  • cause watching league is better than watching a boring ****ing game

I took some marketing courses when I was in High School. The way to attract an audience is with alot of noticeable advertising.

Here is a list of thing our version can do to promote events.

-Forums - Announcing events on the forums is great because there are many active people who are on. But there is still not enough people just on the forums. Plus posting a day or two before an event starts isnt going to cut it.

-Website Homepage - More than likely whenever people want to look up anything about Crossfire North America, they will go through the homepage. This is the first thing they will likely see and will catch their eye.

Facebook -CrossFire has 1.5million Likes. One single post can get over 20k or more views a day.

-Start up Announcements - Everyone who plays CrossFire will have to see the Start Up menu. This already shows Announcements and displaying events should be a must.

-In game message::: IE(VIP notices) or (server maintenance in 10 minutes) - This can show "Come and watch our top 4 teams battle it out for a chance to travel to China and win $50,000 on April 24th!"

    -In game billboards (optional)

A few of the things listed above are easily obtainable.
  • Face it, their version is bigger already. Our game still has more BRs than NA players as it is. Crossfire just isn't big here.

But you can get more if it was posted in Barracks aswell, a lot more casual forumers go there, that would be interested.
  • People like free stuff. Even a chance at free stuff.

People also complain about free things. Don't you love it?
  • Considering the competitive community is about 100 players you are really preaching to the wrong people.
  • I feel like the developers overall are more focused towards casual gamers on this version as opposed to others. Like Purvis said in one of his previous posts, they could make announcements in-game, on Facebook, etc.

It's really sad to have the tools needed to publicize events but their not fully utilized competitive-wise.

Another reason why I think our view count is so miniscule is because I feel like our version has a bigger casual player base as opposed to a competitive player base.

The biggest reason I think is the language barrier, our version has so many different countries playing that I believe outweigh the number of North American players. Alpha 7 is full of asians, but why would they watch the stream if someone who isn't Chinese is playing? They have no interest in who is going to represent the North American version of Crossfire. The South American crossfire is almost purely South American players who are actually interested in seeing who is going to represent them, same for the Chinese version and all the other ones. Our version is the "mixed" version which I think is a big contributing factor.

I think a stronger effort needs to be made to properly publicize these events, announcements in-game and Facebook posts would definitely rake in a lot of viewers in my opinion.
  • to be honest i didnt even know that there is a match between this teams or im just not paying attention, now i know ill gladly support teams/watch even though im not a competitive player. If z8 just posted the announcement on facebook it wouldnt be disappointing in my point of view.
  • How many people actually come on the forums daily, or even more so to the competitive section? Most steaming info is posted the day before a match on the competitive forums (which is normally the only place it is posted). You (z8games) have to help let the general public of crossfire know about these events. The best way to let people find out about these events is either through the Cross Fire Facebook, the CF client launcher, or through the in-game announcement system (or better yet, all three). The more people that know, the more that will watch (simple logic).

The CFGL matches are going to be on the 24th and most likely steam information won't be posted until late tomorrow or on the 23rd. Don't wait until the last moment to inform people of an event like this. Start making post about it at least a week before hand and constantly remind the community of it. I've known, like many of the competitive players, that the CFGL finals would be on the 24th for at least two weeks. So why not inform the public community ahead of time that there will be a steam on "x date" at "y time" and then later when you find out exactly what teams are playing update it.

The general public player doesn't know anything about CFGL. Most don't even know there is a 'competitive' side to Cross Fire. League matches, expedition games, or in this case CFGL matches have a huge potential to draw in views and even some new players into the competitive scene (if advertised correctly).
  • Next year, I will put every effort I can to make an event such as BGL or CFPL.

I already have a good word with Samsung but I need alot more sponsors.

CFLA really has a good stream http://www.twitch.tv/x5tv/b/393823273

Im impressed with the production of their event.
  • Not everyone reads forums, plus you need to post it on the CF launcher. For example, League of Legends post tournaments/matches on the front page of their website and launcher. Everyone notices it when they login, increasing the viewership tenfold.

I want to address a couple things here.

First off, BGL (Brazil Game League) started their business grass roots style, and has been in touch with us (z8games LA team) and is doing all this stuff in partnership now with us.

The CFL has some similarities to it, and I hope that we can push it further.

Side note, I didn't get the match information until late this weekend (after noon on Sunday) so it didn't get a chance to get up on the site. I wouldn't blame anyone on this invite tournament for low viewers or anything like that. It was a rushed thing so we can get set for the Global League games on Wednesday.

Lastly, to your paragraph about the General Public. There is issue here because in order to address the general public that means addressing the large number of international players within the game, this causes a lot of problems with the prejudice that goes on in the forums specifically. But also needs to be addressed by the company who handles the gaming league.

I'd also like to point out Purvis is not an employee of G4Box. So I'm definitely listening to the feedback here, but when Purvis says "we" he is talking about the company organizing the league, not Z8Games.
  • Further points.

The BGL has a dedicated broadcast team and a dedicated schedule to broadcasting.

They know each week when a match will be broadcast.

We announced a tournament with 5 days advance notice and had teams complaining that they couldn't be there, and such had to move the matches to different days to accommodate those people.

The broadcast timing for the finals 8pm was not known until way late on Sunday.

I've already spoken to the CFL about doing a match-of-the-week style thing. Something in which we have a regular match time. However they have seen in the past that teams like to move matches around based on player schedules.

Things like this takes a group effort. That being SmileGate, Z8Games, a League, or the general public. I thank the people that helped share Sundays matches with others that didn't know about it due to the short notice. Having a 16 team tournament and having the Finals played the next day is very little time to get any word out so word of mouth was the only practical way of telling people about it.

For the next few days, WE the players need to promote and tell others about the Final Four Tournament. Go into matches and chat about it or make a Macro. :D
  • It has nothing to do with the community, 200 people is well over the amount of actual competitive players in crossfire, this game just isnt up to par for people to take time out of their day to watch people play it. Games like league of legends, Cs:GO, Cs 1.6, Cs Source, CoD, all those live streams have thousands of viewers simply because the game is good. Not bashing on Crossfire though, instead of inventing new guns and zombie modes, start doing something for the competitive side of CF and people will genuinely come..

Are you dumb? They already mentioned how the BR CF league gets 10,000+ viewers for their matches. The reason we are even complaining about this stuff is because of how few we get in comparison to theirs, not in comparison to other games. It would be dumb of us to compare CF streams to other games.

The new modes, maps, guns, characters, etc, are how z8 makes their money. Why would they just drop that and start fully concentrating on the competitive gaming side? It's not their prerogative. Yes, it would be nice if they would help, but don't start over exaggerating this stuff and talking as if it's all their fault and "they need to fix it right now!" lol. It's mostly our job, as players, to fix it and it would be in their interest to help us out a little with that.
  • maybe if you promote the cast more and not just on competitive thread you would for more viewers and maybe invite pubbers to competitive.......

Also, I'm pretty sure that, if even just I advertise a match that I'm going to be in a few days in advance, we can get at least around 500+ more. Idk how much they will care if I'm not going to be involved though. I advertised the last cast I was in as it was starting and we still got about 150 more viewers.

Synopsis: Advertise, advertise, advertise. Let's stop planning everything the day of or day before so we can do this. Let's get things together yo.
  • to have all these annoucements we would have to put them in so many different languages because such a small portion of this game is NA

You need to slow down and read what I'm saying, no where did I press z8 to drop all their projects and focus mainly on the competitive scene. Secondly, there is a reason to compare crossfire to other games, Cod2 is still played competitively and the graphics or nap layouts aren't too complex or give a "wow" factor, its simply because of how it plays. What I intended to say was that if we improves the game aspect like server lag, reg, maps, etc. more people would come play the game and maybe even competitively which in turn gives us more views and recognition.

Heres another reason. Lets make an m4 beast, maybe hackers will go away after and crossfire will be more appealing.

I respect that and you have one of the largest fan base for crossfire, but players can only do so much
  • i watched purvy i liked ur commentary i just think that not many people give a damn or it rlly isnt announced in game so many people dont know about it. My own clan didnt know much and many others i posted it on my vent and fb a link to it and some people got on 20-30+
