Need to know Explanation on the Current Invite Tournament

Attention competitive gamers.

I want to address this now while we're knee deep in setting up the Invite Tournament for the last spot in the Final Four to compete to go to China for the CF Global League.

Yes, that is quite a mouthful.

The reason why that explanation is so long is because this invite tournament is not going to decide who goes to China. It is deciding who takes the last place in a 4 team playoff to decide who goes to China.

Why are we doing it like this?
We are on such a tight time schedule mainly due to Smilegate. SG has thrown over $150,000 at this tournament and it's promising to be a big event. The main event will take place, as we all know on June 1st and 2nd.

Because of this, Visa's, Passports, travel documentation, hotels, and other travel information need time to coordinate. And as such Smilegate has given publishers an ultimatum of submitting the team by April 26th. This means we have to have our team chosen by April 25th.

We could have easily just decided to do a Faceoff between Carnage and Hammertime and called it a day. These two teams have in the past represented, and continue to represent active competition in CrossFire. But we knew that this wasn't going to be the most ideal solution to involve the most people to get the best practice and submit a winning team to take to China and dominate the world.

Realizing that we already had some events going on we decided that it was best to have some sort of playoff for the spot. But how to choose the teams for the playoffs? This is where the LAN and CFL Season 1 came in.

Both were ready to go and already running and were perfect opportunities to select 2 teams to compete to go to China. However we do recognize Hammertimes past contributions to the game and did not want to leave their WCG performance out of it. That gave us 3 teams, and to find the 4th we would give a "second chance" to teams from CFL Season 1 and FG LAN as well as have an opportunity for a couple of teams to "be in the right place at the right time".

At this point we were able to discuss publicly some of the details for the CF Global League. From there we released the scheduling information. That we had to have a team picked and that some sort of invite tournament had to happen between CFL Season 1 ending and April 21st.

After that we needed to figure out the best way to handle this invite tournament. Luckily we already had the best way, and that was directly a result of the success of the CFL Season 1.

The CFL easily became our Go-To group to help us organize what we need for this tournament. They were going to be able to do the match check-ins and reporting and handle the brackets. They also have the ability to cast a few matches and get some marketing out in the world for us. And the best thing is that everyone was happy and volunteering to help out on this in such short time for the benefit of the game.

The Invite Tournament

The tournament must take place this week. No matter what this was a fact that could not be changed. Regardless of whether it started today, tomorrow, Friday etc. Some matches were going to be played on the weekend.

Unfortunately we're not at the luxury of being able to accommodate everyone with this. We've tried our best to bring in as many teams as possible to give them a shot at going to China. Everyone who is active here knows about these opportunities and has had a chance to be involved and get a spot.

This tournament is being run by the CFL and we are backing all decisions and rulings made by them. We're also going to be assisting them with disputes and reviews should it come to that.

It's fairly clear no one in the competitive community can sit down and play a video game without someone thinking they are entitled to a win. But in the recent history of the game, only 1 or 2 teams have actually deserved that entitlement.

Conclusion
I know for a fact that the CFL wants to improve on Season 2 and is looking to do some awesome things with competitive gaming in CrossFire. And we'll be giving them prizes to back it up whenever we can.

But for this tournament, we need to make it happen, and it has to happen fast, while we apologize that this means some inevitable scheduling issues with people, we can't afford to drag on arguments about this kind of stuff. Z8Games has the full trust in the capabilities of the CFL to pull this mini tournament off in the time we've given.

Also, just to add. While Erick is competing on a team, this is in no way going to cause a conflict of interest. He is a part of CFL, which are handling this from an organizational perspective only. Everyone should be equally aware of the rules, and will have action taken upon them accordingly regardless of what team they are on.

Lastly, for the scheduling of the 4 team playoffs this will happen WEDNESDAY APRIL 24TH. In the evening EST. We will try to accommodate times as best as possible for this 3 game playoffs. So if you make it, expect to play then.
