Cyber Gaming League - Draft Reflection

Hello CrossFire competitive community!

As most of you may know, CGL ran our first draft last night. Between all the issues that arouse, lack of staff, and some-what of an dis-organizational situation, it was a successful draft in our eyes. We never expected anything like last night, and it was a memorable experience for all who was involved on the staff team. After calculating the numbers, we had 142 CrossFire players ready to play and have some fun. We maxed out our Ventrilo (all 150 slots) three times, and our Anti-Cheat (unfortunately) was unable to handle everyone at once.

142 Players - This beyond belief, scared the shizznits out of us. We were hoping for 40 to hopefully 60. We were blown away by the out poor of support and good sportsmanship (generally) in the CF competitive community.

Maxed out our VoIP - As the day went on, we were seeing people coming in like herds of cows ready to play. We were skeptical that we'd even hit 60. 30 minutes before the draft (officially) started we were hitting the low 100's and upper 90's. By the draft was in full swing we had a whopping 149-150 people waiting to game. So much in-fact, our CEO Shawn was in contact with MaxFrag to raise our server limits because we couldn't simply hold enough!

Anti-Cheat Issues - By 8:20 PM EST we were already having major crowds of bugs from users needing assistance with the Anti-Cheat. By 8:50 PM EST we basically knew the Anti-Cheat simply wouldn't of been able to handle that many people at once trying to use it. We eventually tried to do an emergency re-code and add in a password but that only helped so much. Finally, we allowed whoever couldn't get on the Anti-Cheat to ultimately record with Bandicam/Fraps.

X-Trap Servers Going Down - Everything was going fine (Somewhat) when the X-Trap server went down for an hour and a half on a Saturday night. This disallowed a lot of persons from being able to get in and play. This killed off a lot of the teams one by one and leading to a situation where we just let it keep going until there wasn't enough teams let to win.

Conclusion
- After our very interesting five hour experience we had tonight, we've dealt with mass crowds, maxed VoIP's, anti-cheat bugs, X-trap issues, and tons more. But we all tried to make it as smooth of an experience as anyone could. The staff were overwhelmed with a 20 players to 1 staff member ratio. We sincerely are hoping to continue our run in CF NA and making CGL a big name in the competitive community like WCG, WOGL, CFL, and other big and successful in their own right gaming league/communities.

    -Obviously the anticheat

-Run it more fairly. The admins let their friends be captains when there was a ton of people that wanted to have that spot. When teams were picking, some teams got to pick 2-3 people while some only got to pick 1. Also, my team wanted to pick a ringer from "ringer lobby 2" but the admin said "ringer lobby 1" has to be empty before we can pick him. We were fine with that, however 5 seconds later he let the player from the 2nd lobby ring for a team.

-Try getting the games started closer to draft time. Games last night didn't even begin until 2 hours after 9 PM.

-Stop moving people from their teams randomly, lol.. In our first game, the admins kept moving people out of the channel on the other team and it caused them the game. They ended up having only 2 or 3 people in their channel and had to play 4v5.

-Enforce rules more, half the teams were stacking and it was pretty obvious ~.~

However, the draft was fun and I would play it again. There will always be a ton of interest in drafts, especially if there's a working anticheat and a prize.

Well, next draft we have set some guidelines for how it will be run, Im sorry that you felt teams were stacked, Its very hard to fight against smurfing and team stacking, its the hardest part of the draft, all tho let me assure you there was no bias with last nights draft., Also for some teams getting 2, there was a confusion, we were originally going to give each team 2 picks, because of the sheer number of players, to cut down on time, but I decided against it at the last minute, which is my fault.

As for AC, It will be fixed by next draft

    Thank you for your suggestions.
  • Alot more people than i expected showed up.. just make sure the AC and ventrilo has enough slots and works properly next time!. Of course the cf server issues yesterday didnt help either haha. It was fun though.
  • I had so much fun playing and I made it into the semi finals, then they replaced me and f**kin backstabbed me and said i was doing stuff that I wasn't even doing. I went positive every round and was top fragging a few halfes too...

Other than that I had fun and you guys really should host a PUG again :)
  • meh, decent drafts alway have this turn out, good job.

stop doing draft and start cups/leagues plaese, i h8 offseason
  • Draft was awesome, too bad it got ruined by CF servers being down. Ill def attend the next one!
  • i cant even get in cause ventrilo was full last night and it was lagging so hard. better luck next time for me :)

You were probably late if you couldn't get in. Join the ventrilo earlier, better safe than sorry.

About the picking, you should probably let the first team pick and so on until you reach the last time, then let the last team pick twice, and move upwards and when you reach the first team let them pick first, etc.

This makes it much more fair towards the other teams.
  • There I am in team 17 with Saint :) Rest of the team was pretty bad. Some teams were too OP'd in my opinion.
  • A lot of fun, I would do that again, I hope to get my "highlights of CGL" uploaded by Monday.
  • Anyways can people get back on track. I thought the draft was awesome.

    Pros
    Lots of people.
    Lots of staff helping everyone.
    Lots of teams.

    Cons
    Fix AC asap.
    Bigger ventrilo.

Also, This lion guy should really stop trying to start **** and stfu. Its annoying.

    Where's my zp?

We had it all ready and sent to you on our forums. Unfortunately, a couple hours after we sent the codes the website went down. The ZP is bought though.

With that, we will send you all the codes via Z8 forum PM if you could provide all 5 of your Z8 forum names.

    Thanks.
