Renting Servers
I have searched using different words to try to find if this idea has been thought of before. It probably has as what I am about to suggest is popular in many other multi-player games.
Note: this would require a massive change to the current set-up, would take a lot of time to develop and implement, and would cost a lot of money to do (probably).
So currently to join the game, it is in a tiered system: Server -> Channel -> Room
This system is pretty different to most other games, where normally there is a server browser and from the list of servers you pick 1 to join. So basically, a room in CF is a server in another game.
My idea would be to change the tiered system slightly: You still have the list of servers UK 1,2,3,4 etc.. But this would become the channel list. Once you've selected a channel (let's pick Uk1 for this example) you are shown a server browser with different matches being set up. This tier system would work like this: Channel -> Server Browser -> Server.
So now to the server rental idea...Players would be able to pay a monthly fee to rent their own server (a game room in this current state).
-They would be able to set up map rotations and game type rotations
-these rotations could be influenced by users voting in lobby after matches end
-Admins of the server can kick/ban users who are hacking/abusing etc
-Autobalance system, or manual team balancing. (May create stacked teams in the wrong hands with manual balancing)
-Ping Restrictions could come into play (a default setting of no restriction, and a lowest setting at 100)
-No need for a host to start the game - a 15s lobby time before the next match is begun, and you can just click join game when you want to join the match.
So if you are familiar with this server rental idea, like in the Battlefield series, Team Fortress, Counter-Strike, it will be nothing new to you, but new to Crossfire.
Why I think this will benefit the game:
-Communities can be set up: Forumers could have their own server, that they all join and have a relaxed time. Clans can create their own servers, and can recruit members using their clan server.
-Admins can quickly remove hackers and/or abusive members from the game.
-The developers/Z8 Games will benefit from this as they can bring in more money.
-If people think weapons such as SL or M14 for example, admins of the server can add it to their rules and kick people using these 'banned' weapons. That way, if players don't like people using these controversial weapons, they don't have to put up with it. But if players don't care about the SL or m14, they can join other servers elsewhere.
-A possibility to remove vote-to-kick from servers running with admins.
What potential problems could be caused by this:
-Server Admin Abuse or Badmins - We're all aware of getting kicked for no reason, or for simply not liking a person. Well Badmins may take matters into their own hands, so if you kill the admin, he may just kick you from the server. I personally think that eventually, badmins would be called out, and people would stop joining servers with these people. But, even with badmins, it's better than being kicked, as it's not going to happen as much.
-It would take a LOT of work to do, we're talking a totally new user interface system for the administrator rights for kicking etc.
-A higher server capacity would be required which could be expensive.
-A complete change to how the current tiered system works - a re-vamp of the whole menu system will take a long time, and will be very different.

You seem to be a smart guy so why do make all this up when you can know for sure that this is not going to be implemented?
I would estimate that it would cost up 50000$ to recode the game in a way that you would be able to test this system. If it would fail this money would be wasted. The developers are not easy to make trying something new. Remember UK5? The level restriction was a huge disappointment due to missing communication between the community, Z8Games and G4Box (the devs). They won't try anything like that again. -
I have nothing to lose by writing this thread, maybe 15 - 20 mins at most.
And I know it's not going to be implemented. Which is funny because when a mod tells me to stop expecting and put some thought into it and my idea may be considered more seriously, and yet it doesn't get considered, let alone even taken seriously. Just proves the point that all the developers care about is copy, paste from other CF version and reskin weapons with +5 ammo.
Edit: It just shows that they don't really care much about the quality of the game. If they change the games it's because the profit margin is massive. That's why the reskin so many weapons. All developers make games for money, but a lot of them actually care about their game too. It seems they don't at CF -
I'm no mod although my forum title says holy knight which just made giggle a little when I noticed. Neither am I related to the Crossfire development team.
I am just a simple software developer that knows some things about the background processes. And I know Crossfire for quite a long time now. You are right when you say that many things are being copied. It is funny to see this Crossfire version implementing new features from other version while copying the bugs aswell. It's some strange sort of a franchise. -
You have me there, I know nothing about software development. It could cost a lot of money and if it were to fail it'd be a big loss.
But I know business, and I can see clearly what is happening with CF. I think we all can.
I'd like to see an official reason, to confirm your theory of it costing too much to simply test. -
The developers for CrossFire are Smilegate. Z8Games are the publishers (portal). Z8Games can suggest new things to them but it is their final say to wherever to go with the suggest.
50,000$ is nothing for Smilegate when they are producing way over that amount.

I know my idea is a long shot. Maybe a much more simplified version of this could still be implemented. But I don't think the publishers or developers care. As long as people keep buying reskins they'll keep everything the way it is. Hackers, gametypes, copy paste from other versions from CF. I bet profit margins are huge. It's not like a bit of copy paste is a lot of work.
They're not interested in what we want. It's honestly all P.R BS. They put in a few of the ideas made in these threads. A few. Yes I'm not expecting them to add in every damn idea, but I think this suggestions thread doesn't exactly change the game a lot. As long as the game is making money, they won't lower their profits just a little by investing in a new idea. -
Well people who like buying reskins are obviously pleased by this and don't move on to other games. You cannot change this. You could just move on to another game because that is obviously their business model.
If you try to get something done in this game then almost instantly people are saying: "But it's free to play, be pleased by what you get." This mentality is wide spread in the Crossfire community. They're not interested in what we want. -
