Remove the smoke effect from crater zm.

Well, we just got that new zm map. It's all good and fun, but there is one big problem for a lot of ppl: fps drop.
-
It makes it impossible to finish a single game without hypos, or with a few hypos because of seeker spawn effect. Everytime a group of seekers spawns in that smoke behind or in front of u, the fps goes down from 50 to 2-5 for a few seconds and u end up losing at least 50% of ur hp, or even dying.
-
So am suggesting to remove that effect. Idc what u do with the seekers, maybe increase the number of zombies and make seekers spawn like every other zombie, but remove that effect.
-
And don't tell me to buy a new pc. I could play cf perfectly on any map. This is the only map where I get fps issues. (And I know many more ppl who can't finish 30 rounds because of that) Not everyone can afford a 800$ pc, especially in a 13+ game. Ever seen 13 year old with such an expensive pc? Yep, I didn't too.
Anyways, tell me what u think.

Edit: Did a mistake writing the title. Should've been "Remove the smoke effect from crater zm"

I have a job, but I don't get enough for a pc and have to spend my money on more useful stuff. Am 15 btw.
I would understand it if I would have constant 5-10 fps. But it's happening only when the seekers spawn, and am not the only one having that problem. Either make it so that the fps doesn't drop by about 20x, or don't make effects like that at all. That's just annoying and doesn't make it look better or anything.
  • The new map is made with a higher resolution of texture and more effects. They're trying to make the game more exciting, and for those of us who don't lag spike in that smoke... those things spawning in smoke make it look so much cooler and make it that much more fun... the other zm maps are boring to me now and this map is at least cool looking, even if it is easy to memorize the spawn patterns to consistently do well.

I understand that you can't afford a computer, I'm in the same boat... but I at least know how to optimize my system and do everything that can possibly boost my fps... cleaning the dust away from the vents, defragging, shutting off non-essential programs, virus scan, etc... and I went from running a steady 140 fps to running around 210 fps... so that fps drop puts me still high enough to play smoothly.
  • That's because you're computer is bad I guess but you obviously know that, so if you can't afford better one you need to deal with it, sorry. :(
    What else can I say...

I noticed that since the last few patches. Guns and maps look better, more effects etc. I like how they're improving the game and making maps look better. But there must really be a problem with that one effect since it drops everyone's fps. Even the ppl with about 100 fps suddenly get about 10-20. Now imagine 5 groups of seekers spawning in a row, while u're being followed by mutants and scorchers. Even that fps drop to 20 will get u killed or lose hp.
  • meh I played it with around 100 fps and I had 3 groups of seekers spawn while being shot at by the boss and falling off of the ledge and spraying my MG... dropped to 20 fps and jumped right back...
just gotta know how to deal with it... the lag isn't a problem on z8's side it's a problem on your side :/

I know you don't want this said, but if everyone had a high end computer, that map wouldn't lag at all for anyone... that being said... you gotta find a way to not lag, or don't play that map :/
  • The smoke effect makes it able to be able to see where the enemies are coming. Unless you rather have zombies randomly coming at you without warning?

There is always a sound effect before they spawn, and I can see them on the map.

Well, not everyone has a good pc. With half of the community being 12 year old brs/egys/turks, I think a lot of ppl have that problem. Anyways, there are much better looking effects in other games like the cod games, lfd/lfd 2 etc, but I never get fps lag there and don't have to see a slideshow. So I guess why I have that problem in cf.

You wouldn't be able to know exactly where they are by a sound effect. Looking at your minimap can cause deaths. (Because some people are too busy looking at their map rather then what's in front of them)

I play with sound off so ya that's how I know whats coming at me... I turned all of my effects to as low as they go and turned off all sound so that only visual effects can cause lag, and they're not as bad without sound.
I sit in 1 spot and keep an eye on that minimap to tell where the mobs are so that I can react in time :) I usually don't get hit till the 20th or so round doing this. :)
You wouldn't be able to know exactly where they are by a sound effect.
wanna 1v1 gm? :) lol the skill of knowing where something is based off of sound is called pinpointing... very easy to do.
  • that's really not their fault lol
iifc I got 150+ fps on my laptop last I logged on months ago
so it's up to you to fix your problem :P

Thanks for the advice, I actually totally forgot about turning down sound, gamma etc in cf. Maybe that'll get my fps up too. There are still others who have an even worse pc than I do so yeh..Removing/replacing one effect won't hurt anyone, but just help many players. The other ones would still have as much fun, I mean one single effect won't change much..
that's really not their fault lol

Actually, it is. There shouldn't be so a high drop in fps just because of a smoke effect. As I said, even ppl with high fps get that fps drop. Why don't I get that fps lag in other games, which have way better graphics/effects than cf?
  • or you could play on the lowest settings to get more fps?

    np, did it help?

This is why you optimize your computer to the point of having around 200+ fps... this way even if your fps drops it doesn't touch 65 and will still run smoothly. This game is becoming like most high end games, the players will require better computers to play without complications...
I'm sure in another year or two, there will be such good quality updates that all of us with computers made in the early 2000's will need upgrades or we won't be able to enjoy any of the new content :/
CF is improving in visual quality, and the devs know that this will call for all the members to have good computers to handle it... this is their fault, but it's something that they know the members will adapt to over time.

    Already said, thanks :)
  • You dont go on BF3 and blame them for making a game your PC cant run do you?
  • Try to make sure your drivers are updated or try re-installing them. Upgrade your .NET Framework. Lower screen resolution, play on 16 bit instead of 32. Terminate processes that you aren't using. If using windows change the theme to best performance. Or just play a different ZM map.
  • A better idea would be to reduce the smoke effect.

You have to buy a new pc, and lots of other people should too. Why?
Before the patch I had 200FPS in 8v8 matches, and 200FPS in every ZM map.
After the patch, 200FPS in 8v8 matches, and 200FPS in every ZM map.

And it isn't even the best PC... Although it can run every game in max quality without lag... (Yes, I also can record my gameplay with a stable 120-200FPS ingame)
  • Agreed. Removing flash wouldn't be bad either.
  • Play a better game and invest in a better pc. ;)

    We have an idiot here.

...Who in their right minds would buy a whole damn computer for cf JUST to play on a crappy make that cause them to lag because of SMOKE POOFS?

I get better FPS in the HL engine with explosions going off every 2 seconds...
  • I lag when the smoke comes but seekers chasing me dot lag. I'm also planning on buying a new pc

GoldSrc is older and less advanced... that will be why.
  • I'm 14 and I get 120 fps max settings. Except when smoke comes in Any mode it drops to like 25..maybe they should change the effects of smoke..not remove it..if that makes sense
  • Also an option to disable the "latest" death animation/player stance and replace them with the old ones before loading the client
  • The people who say it should stay are completely.. well.

I can still play smoothly ZM with 200 FPS, but when they spawn, I get 100 FPS.

I mean, that's just bad, really. If they can't code it well on that engine - then please, don't even add it.

and lovely Giggle, how it comes that BF3 runs on his computer but not CF? :D

I dont have any issues when they spawn...

    Its the users PC...

    You don't have a FPS drop? ._.

I don't feel it, but.. the FPS goes down by half..

Not as far as I notice... therefore, not a problem

If I hit Tab and look at my FPS when they spawn, then I notice it..

    otherwise not, yea.
  • Well, it'd be cool to have an option to disable it.
