not really, the political system isn't really sided on the presidential election in the U.S., anything can really happen with any type of president as long as there are corporations bribing congress etc..
The U.S. isn't even a democracy. -
Canada is a constitutional monarchy. We observe the queen out of respect for history and the British Empire. Even the Governor General isn't involved in day-to-day decisions. Just like the Queen's impact in Britain politically [nil], Canada has no political influence from the Queen. She can't walk around and have people jailed.
We have a prime minister, which is the president equivalent of America [except Steven Harper can't take bribes, as a decision must be agreed upon by a group of politicians in a place known as the House of Commons].
Ex:
Steven Harper takes a $1 billion dollar "grant" from Bombardier to allow them to blow up a landmark and use it as a place to make their planes.
He agrees, but takes it the House of Commons and it is denied.
It doesn't go through.
In terms of presidency, the president can do whatever he wants in an instant. Which is why things take longer in Canada; I don't understand why we're made fun of by Americans for our somewhat slower response time. Internationally, we're still in good standings with the majority of countries, no country wants to bomb us, and we're loved throughout the world.
Now, for America... -

Majority of coutries have to bow down to the US even if they do or don't want to bomb the US. And "Good standing" my ass. Every country is on everyone else's balls. You don't think the UK and the USA have spy networks within Canada? Every country distrusts every country.
"no country wants to bomb us" -Cough North Korea Cough
This "Good standing" crap is only for the public and the mindless sheep so they don't get overwhelmed. -

Really, does any industrialized country still have an active monarchy (except Monaco) where the regents have a say?
Our king is forbidden from even political commentary.
Now I'm not against a real monarchy - democracy isn't very appealing - but today, the whole institution of royalty as representatives seems moot. -
I'm sure that North America was made up by British and African slaves.

But seriously, when over 45% of the US's population still believe that god has something to do with evolution, I'm thinking that the Brits kinda wanted to get rid of you.

They had ONE beach on Dday. ONE beach, and on top of that, the least guarded beach.
In my world the Canadian men and women who gave their 'All' during the war, some paying the ultimate price, will never be Forgotten! Never be belittled and Never Ever be treated as anything but equal amongst all the HEROES who helped make our world the 'World' we live in today.
Ya get me? -

I believe that in some aspects God had something to do with evolution. How is this even relevant?

The truth of the matter is that the US didn't enter the war voluntarily, they had war declared on them, when Japan bombed Pearl Habour.
It was Feb 1943 by the time the Americans had their first major contact with Germans on land, in North Africa (which went heavily in favour of the Germans).
Before then, the Battle of Britain had been won, which lead to the indefinite suspension of all German plans to invade Britain, the Axis forces had been forced back across North Africa, and were left holding onto Tunisia. The Axis had lost control of the Mediterranean, and the Italian navy had been pretty much destroyed, the Germans had lost the Battle of Stalingrad to the cost of half a million men. (whoever won Stalingrad won WW2).
All of that happened without a single American shot being fired at a German.RawrJafrikan wrote: »I believe that in some aspects God had something to do with evolution. How is this even relevant?

You seem to be forgetting the most important part of warfare.
Where did the Brits get the supplies?
Oh wait, it came from the Americans. -

Did I belittle the American war effort? No.
Do Americans think they won it all by themselves? Yes.
No one cares you thinking you helped, but the vast majority of Americans think they did everything, when in fact, you turned up late and only entered the war voluntarily, when you got beaten at Pearl Harbour and War was declared on you.
We can't blame the people of America, as they have no History, you guys have to try and change it through Hollywood to make you feel better.
How was your 236th Birthday? My school was formed before the USA existed, and my house is older than your 'ancient' Statue of Liberty.
