Sounds are what makes the game more realistic... so why are there extra sounds?

Think about when you kill someone just after a match ends and how it only makes the sound of your weapon and the enemy getting killed. Super real right?

And after you die in a round (like in s&d) and you are watching someone else on your team play and they kill an enemy and how it does the same thing, playing just the weapon sound and other enemy getting killed sound.

Now imagine playing every match like that, with just the weapon sound and the enemy dying sound playing when you kill someone.

Players already have the option to move the headshot and multikill sound files out of the sound folder, but there is still one extra sound that plays during the match when you kill someone. It is the same sound that plays when you defuse the c4 in a s&d match. It is like a crashing sound.

My suggestion is to take this last sound out of the REZ files and turn it into an actual sound effect file so players have the option to move this crashing sound, that plays every time you kill someone, out of the sounds folder. This will make the gameplay 100x more realistic.

  • That's called Immersion, not realism.
And yes, it does improve gameplay

    dragunov3r:

People become totally immersed in the game because of it's realism, and giving players the option to disable this one sound effect will make the game as realistic as it can get.

I'm trying to hear the other team dying when I kill them with no extra crashing sound.

I tried to listen to what you're talking about, but I don't hear any sort of "crashing" sound...
  • I don't know.. I'm a old-school "The Matrix" kind of guy that likes that bit of unrealistic, corny sound effects that rings every now and then. I see your point and it is a small change so I suppose it won't happen because the designers are doing something else and that I wouldn't get rid of it.
  • What are you talking about?

If you're talking about the person who wrote this thread, then he's saying that there's a special effect sound that is really hard and faint but you can still hear it if you have what I call a "musicians ear" or if your sound glitches and you cant hear anything, usually for some reason you can still hear that clashing sound.

If you're talking about me.. Well, just play 'The Matrix: Path of Neo" and you'll see what I mean. :P

  • It's a game. It doesn't need to be realistic. I never noticed that sound in the video because it didn't bother me.

Actually SmilyFace if you have been keeping up with other games like Call of Duty Black Ops and Battlefield 3 you will notice that the developers are making the games as close to real life as possible. That's what keeps the players hooked in. Did you know Black Ops was the highest selling video game ever released?

What I'm suggesting is that this sound be turned into a file so players have the option to disable it if they want to.

  • Games aren't even close to real-life, not even COD. Try walking through a city/area in which you've never been before. You have no idea what to expect as you round a corner since you're unfamiliar with the area. You also have no HUD, and you may not even be able to consult the rest of your unit. Games are meant to be games. None of them resemble real-life at all.
As for your idea, I don't care if it's implemented or not. It's not going to change much.

Black Ops was the highest seller because it was overrated. Have you seen the reviews? Have you played it? It blows :S

What is the point of a video game if it's so realistic?

    More realistic sounds +1
But that sound in the video...I dont really see how it affects game play o.o
IMO, it kind of makes the game...entertaining. It makes it stand out a bit. The game would be...so simple and boring. It could be an option though. All I know is that it doesn't look like a huge problem to me.
  • The indicator of making a kill?

    I barely notice it...

ew, black ops is getting boring, only sold out because it's a cod game (imo), battlefield should add the gravity stuff to the other weapons too .-. then i'll be happy xD
  • The sound system is a big plus in CF in my opinion. Of course it would be more realistic without the killmark sounds and C4 sounds and stuff, but it'd be boring. CrossFire is not realistic at all, so why to change the sound into realism?`It doesn't fit in the game in my opinion.

So StealthRush no games resemble real life? Right, none of them use human looking characters with real recorded human voices and footsteps and none of them use real life guns or have real life textures and building structures right? No that doesn't resemble real life at all. Look at Battlefield 3 that's coming out at the end of the year on youtube and tell me developers aren't making the games more real than ever.

Thanks for the response SmilyFace. Black Ops is probably not over rated if there are millions of people on the planet playing it at any given time 24/7. In video games you can do things that you can't or shouldn't do in real life which is what makes them entertaining to us and why developers try to make them as real as possible.

I'm just asking that this one sound be made into a file so any player in the world has the choice to hear it or not. You are probably someone who like the headshot and multikill sounds, I happen to have mine disabled as well as other players probably do. Alot of people have ways to enhance their gameplay and for some people hearing the extra sounds takes away a bit of the realism.

I'm suggesting just to turn that one little sound into a file so players have the choice to hear it or not.

You can still listen to it if you want to :) Others might prefer not to.

YES! But you still notice it ;) And maybe some people would like to have the option not to hear it.

Sure, the graphics and sounds are becoming more realistic these days. But compare the gameplay to real life and there's not much to compare, besides the fact that real soldiers don't have all the luxuries of the soldiers in a game.

OVER RATED. A lot of people still play it because they thought it was the best game. They get bored of it because...its nothing special compared to MW2. They just changed the way it looks and added a few things here and there. There's a lot of games that deserve more than COD. BFBC2, Uncharted, Half Life etc.

But again like my previous post, I wouldn't mind if it was an option to take away that 1 second sound...

Games should never be like Real Life. People are already to addicted to gaming. If you want "realism" and "realistic graphics" take a walk outside or in a battle field.

You get very used to the sound, that most people it doesn't even affect at all. And switching it if it is in a rez file, wouldn't be the simplest thing to do. And we don't need to break the game again over something so small. We already went through hell with the last patch.

Thank you for the reply Rex.

I understand if it is too difficult or time consuming to turn one sound into a file and switch the source in the programming.

That doesnt necessarily mean that we shouldnt have the option to take it out or not. Its the little things that make the quality of the game amazing, So Im going to disagree with "we don't need to break the game again over something so small".

Call of Duty sold out because it's Call of Duty and Actvision paid millions to get good reviews.
Console players will buy anything if you slap the word CoD or Halo on it.
Call of Duty really fails at the whole realism thing too. INDICATORS ABOVE GRENADES AND VERY LITTLE RECOIL ON ANY WEAPON! MAGICALLY HEALING TO FULL HEALTH AFTER BEING SHOT 6 TIMES!1! Yes, soooo realistic.

Battlefield is a series that has always been about realism. Once again, they don't get too close, but they don't stray too far (You don't have indicators from every thrown weapon on screen)
    ---
Anyways, the sound idea is a pointless waste of resources that could be spent doing something else.

You know what's more fun? Gaming in Real Life. Assassins, and Humans vs Zombies ftw!

Something so little shouldn't be a priority over more major things. Especially something so dumb as this. We had a patch for some minor thing that ended up turning flashbangs into room-crashing bombs.
Yes, we really don't need to break the game over something so minor, that bugs a whole 3 players.
