don't get a SMG, they're bad in this game, stick with a good rifle, like xm8 or ak-47 or simply the m4a1,... -
IF I had to choose an SMG, I would go with the MP5. It has a very easy spray pattern and the recoil is not that high. Its power is pretty decent as well.
If you are looking for a main weapon, it would be best to go with an Assault Rifle for sure. But, to each his/her own. Have fun. -

AKs-74u isn't supposed to be an SMG in the first place ... Z8 screwed up with this.
On Topic:
MP5. The best SMG for starters. There is all that noob stuff like Kriss, Thompson and M12. You decide if you want the easy way or the legit one. If you decide to take the M12, use the name change and add BR after your IGN. Also, set "Aff", "Porra", "FDP" and "Gringo" as your macros. This will help. If you decide to take the normal path, aim for the head and the neck. Keep in mind that unless your target is hurt, you won't kill it in one headshot. 3 - 5 bullets bursts with the MP5.
If you wish, I could introduce the P90 to you, since it's been my main SMG for a year now, I think. Just tell me. Or whisper in game.
EDIT: I totally forgot K1A wich is a great SMG, with a little less ROF than most, but more power than most. The only real downside to it being the gun's loudness.
