Very quickly I started doing things beyond just customer support, things like the community and forum growth and connecting to Facebook and running social media etc. I have the distinction of coming up with the Ribbon system for the website (much to the chagrin of Smilegate), and the general monthly release schedules. We adapted a lot of techniques from Riot Games (LoL) and Valve (TF2). Back in those days we were pioneering a lot of the releases. Doing things that other versions of CF and other games had never done before. We even caught a few other games copying what we were doing haha. The growth for the game back then was exponential it was a crazy time to be involved!

FallenAngel handled more of the testing and communication with Smilegate on the build updates. We had some additional help behind the scenes, but we were the 2 public faces of the game.

Eventually FallenAngel moved to handle other versions of the game (in Spanish) and other tasks, and then as things progress we were both shown the door, which was fine by the way, it happens in the industry. For me it was a kick in the ass to learn new skills, and realize my own potential and a great opportunity to be involved in other games and companies.

The first moderator is a harder question, in the 5 years I worked there we had some rotating moderators, probably 15-20 in total over the 5 years? Something like that. Polleus was definitely one of the originals, Greycloak too, and Giggletron. It really starts to get fuzzy though. Some moderators would step back for a bit, and then come back to the game. I can't remember the order in which everyone became mods because to me they were just friends and good people and there was no timeline on them.

edit: also can't forget BlindRob - that guy was stellar. A highly skilled player who also made videos. A lot of inspiration for social networking and the film awards came from him. He was doing things way ahead of his curve involving streaming and stuff like that.
Good to see one of the oldest GMs then. Sucks that you had to go like that, heard really great things about you. But also heard you're a not big fan of Barretts, which makes me kinda hate you (not literally, jk)... xD

Chris my man, Fizzeq here. I remember the last time we talked was 2016 New Year's day (or was it 2015?). It's actually been awhile, from when you moved on from Smilegate and from the last time we talked haha.

I can't thank enough to you for giving me the opportunity to forum mod at Z8Games. The few, seemingly long years of time were overall enjoyable until the end. I left on good terms all around, even though I had mixed emotions filled with sadness, disappointment, and frustration. But all that I've moved on from, and no longer give care to. I learned a lot through moderation duty, most importantly it helped me better connect with a community that I had come to love for the longest time if I'm being honest. And I am, even now that I'm not here anymore, I loved the days of hanging out with close friends, clan members, and active forumers.

You were my role model and the person I respected the most out of everyone and anyone that I had the pleasure to know from this game and forum. If anything, I was also the saddest person from this entire forum when you moved on and away from us. I knew immediately (and even somewhat in the time before SG let you go) that this game and community would not be the same anymore, and that it hinted drastic change or even downfall of the game overall. I'm not wrong on that, as evident by today's standards and situations.

I cleaned out my skype contact list after I quit this game and forum, so don't mind it if you didn't see me on the list anymore. Other than infrequent greetings, I didn't really have anything for you so it ended up being a display on my list. No hard feelings man, just didn't want anything to do with this game or the past of this game any longer. But otherwise, hope all is great for you in work and life. Maybe some day we'll talk again haha. If you respond, I may or may not check back. But I'll try. Adios!

          Damn Chris,

It's been so damn long, I told Fizzeq about you coming back to the forums and damn he didn't believe me at first (this gave him a reason to come back to the forums haha)

But I hope things are well I believe you're now a Senior Producer, congratulations and best of luck with your future endeavors my friend,

I still remember the times when you and HPX trolled me and others.

          all the best~

Tremendous is in the eye of the beholder unfortunately. Back then the cultural divide between a developer in Asia and a publisher in North America was a challenge. Games were not global back then. This was before League of Legends, or Dota2 or Overwatch. There was very strict rules which we often broke because we thought it was good for the game. Obviously we built up a successful title and Smilegate was quite happy for that, but changing things meant we were taking away innovation from the developer. This made all of our communications difficult and took a lot of time to mend. And ultimately the game is better for that, the things that I see in the game now are clearly a direct result of developers looking at a global audience and not just specific for the Asian market.

And a lot of that stuff was just starting to change from Smilegate as I was left. I would have very much liked to have seen those updates and have the communication and working relationship that the current team no doubt has.

None of this is to suggest that was the reason I was let go. I was let go due to an entirely different project, one that was mismanaged but nevertheless that's what happened.

Ultimately 5 years on a project is a long time. Especially live operations. The daily routine is very much that, routine. I was able to show the GM staff like Juicebox the importance of community, and engagement and events and sales and all that good stuff we learned. And I'm happy to see the game is still around. As much as it would be fun to return to this world, I'm glad I'm able to move on though.

I'm currently a senior producer, a title I would have never been able to achieve at Smilegate West. And I lead a team of nearly 20 people on some older Facebook games, which doesn't sound glamorous, but our company is on the leading edge of instant games and html5 work. And while my specific job is to maintain our Facebook IPs, our company as a whole are doing cutting edge things and I get to work with and talk to people who are much smarter than all of us on a daily basis. It's inspiring and challenging and I get to live a more comfortable life.

I've been able to take the knowledge I learned working on CrossFire for community engagement, monetization, and retention and grow that knowledge way beyond what I would have been if I had been at SGW for 8 years. And hopefully my current learning will move me even further to new games or new companies. Never stop growing! Don't take habit and routine lightly. 5 years is a long time, and moving on should always be on everyone's mind!
Althought i wasn't around on the forums during your era, i was still playing the game then with my friends.

We had many ups and downs but ultimately we had alot of fun xD

I wish you the best of luck with whatever you plan on becoming in the future, and perhaps you can one day join a company that owns some good games and make them even better.
            Hope for the best

Seeing your sig just made me think of Lobster for a second. I swear, that guy just straight up disappeared, same with dot. I feel sad.

^ Not sure if you've recently used Skype on the phone or not, but they recently changed the interface for the Skype app (at least on iPhone) and I quite like it. Very minimalistic.

What's that first part even meant to mean?

Good, that Brazilian was mentally unstable, he despises me because one of the old Moderators would spend more time playing games with me than him. He genuinely hates my guts because of it. I have the chat log somewhere, I thought it was a joke at first but I messaged him a few years later and he blocked me immediately on Steam.

I remember you from 2009-2010 when I played, didn't really use forums, but I remember [GM]Saidin. Literally the only name I remember from back then. Must've been 12-13 then, damn long time ago.
Anyways enjoyed reading what you're up to nowadays, pretty great letting us, the community, know what you do nowadays.

I was tired so didn't really think of what I wrote. I meant that Saidin probably has a blurry memory of who the first mod(s) was and that he already admitted it, and I won't disagree; Saidin is wrong on the answer he gave regarding mods.

Oh, that's disappointing to hear. Of all the active mods at the time (2013-2014, and maybe into 2015) I played with him and Seashore the most, plus 9 at times. Never had a negative encounter with him through the years. Maybe threw one insult at him on the forums before I was modded, but other than that I don't recall any **** happening between him and I. It's unfortunate but I suppose we all have different experiences with people.
